Genesis Hijacks Lamborghini's Head Designer - What Does That Mean For The Brand?

Hyundai’s standalone premium brand is about to get a lot more… angular, having hired Filippo Perini to head-up its European ‘Advanced Design Studio’.

Perini began his career at Alfa Romeo, where he stayed from 1995 until 2002. Towards the end of his time there he worked on the 159 and the 8C Concept. Then he was a senior designer at Audi for a year before moving to Lamborghini, where, in 2006, he was appointed Head of Design. He remained in that position for no less than ten years, overseeing the creation of such cars as the Aventador, Huracan, Reventon and so-on.

I’m sensing that a lot more people will be buying Korean over the next few years. H/K is already providing great value and styling is better than average, this will only enhance their portfolio especially with Genesis... GM Sr Mgt needs to be fired...

It shows that Hyundai does not have a drop of integrity or original design ability. They are guilty of design theft and plagiarism.

Designers change companies. They can still create original designs. It seems as though H/K is putting together a talented design team.

It just means that the Koreans will continue to be derivative and lack innovation. I'm still waiting for them to introduce a technological breakthrough to really put themselves on the map as a formidable manufacturer. Almost every successful car company has contributed something of significant to the industry whether it's safety, performance, technology, luxury, or design. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis have continued to ride the coattails of the industry. Not saying that's a bad strategy, but to me, it's like a singer trying to become popular by singing cover songs for their entire career.

So I am assuming we are going to play dumb again. Ignoring the 2000 Nissan Altima's face to a 2010 Ford Taurus face.
Or it's ok for the Fusion to copy Aston
It's ok for the Chrysler 300 to copy Rolls Royce.

Shall we go on?

Could it possibly mean that Hyundai plans a Higher end than Genesis - exotic brand to compete with Lambo and Ferrari?

After all - a Lambo designer has really no experience producing designs for every day even luxury vehicles.

LOL. They need to work on their lower end and gaining traction there before ever thinking about going anywhere else. Nothing wrong with having a vision, but if you don't have a viable brand with the core products, then why bother with a "higher end"?
