What Brand/Model Did You Used To Own And LOVE That You Are No Longer In LUST With?
I ran into an old neighbor yesterday when I was out and about who was THAT guy who loved Audi's. He would religiously get an A8 every two years and was an Audi guy before it was cool.

We all know people like that, myself included.

I used to be a huge BMW fan and owned over 15 of them since the 90's. I owned M5's, 7's, 335d, 335is convertible, 5 wagon, X1 and a few others.  Now, the only one that even turns my head with interest is the M2.

But back to my old neighbor. When I ran into him, something was different. He wasn't in an Audi, he was driving a Tesla Model S.

Honestly, I was shocked. This dude was DIE-HARD Audi, through and through.

My how things change. There is a dynamic happening that many of these brands don't want you to know how deep its effecting them. And scaring them like you wouldn't believe.

So it made me want to reach out to you and ask are you still in love with the same brand you've been buying for years? Or like him and I have you fallen out of LUST for these old standby's?

And if so, what are you swooning over these days and what do you own?

BMW. I used to love them in the early 2000s. Now I am very turned off by most models.

BMW. They strayed so far from 'The Ultimate Driving Machine."

Lexus, the GS was my dream car for a long time and I had an IS for many years.

BMW. I still don't mind driving one, just quite a bit indifferent about it.

BMW. Softer and less pretty than before.

I'm not anxious to buy a front-wheel drive BMW. And made in Mexico.

BMW - as an example Mercedes Benz and Porsche have stayed true to their strengths or core values in a evolving market. Unfortunately BMW does not deserve the "Ultimate Driving Machine" slogan anymore - the brand is as exciting as a slice of white bread.

BMW. And look at my on screen name. I am sick to death of the styling. My first BMW was a 2000 model year 330ci. I loved that car. I had three more 3-Series up to 2006 when I switched to 6-Series cars. Three of those later, I switched to the 7 Series. My last BMW was the M760, which is a great car. But I could not be more sick of the styling. Gone is the magic that had me captivated for 16 years. I'm over boring and BMW is boring.

BMW. When my e46 got too old they had nothing appealing to replace it.

I'm seeing some good comments, but let us know what ride you've transitioned to these days as well...

Full size GM or Ford station wagons - When I had all my kids around (My 8 and the foster kids) the Full Size Wagon was a staple of the family. It had duty as a Bus (Rear facing third seat) - could hold a sheet of plywood - but still drove like a car rather than a truck. THe Chevy Suburban will still hold the Sheet goods - but there is no denying it IS a truck. THe Honda Odyssey is NOT wide enough- you have to angle the sheets - and they scratch the interior. My Chrysler Mini-van can still hold the sheets flat - BUT it is really a 7 Passenger (THe eighth would have to be a child). With the front Bench seat - and three kids in the rear - I could get nine in the station wagon.

The wagon was replaced by a Full Size Chevy or Ford Van(I had one of each) - for passengers duty - but removing the seats was a chore. You had to un-bolt them. And they drove NOTHING like a car at all.

While these days I do have the mini-van, I am not in charge of driving the Grand Kids around either - so a direct replacement is not needed.

However - I did have a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback 390 engine that I put together just for me. Looking back - it was a horrible car - handled poorly(Especially in snow)- Had no room inside - and was already passe' when I built it. THe only saving grace was that I was able to sell it for more than the parts I bought to make it. Sorry - but BMW was just not on the Radar back then. Funny that it was replaced at the time by a Station Wagon too.

Cars that have that Audi greenhouse: Avalon, Accord, Lincoln, Chrysler 200, but only the 2011 Sonata would be the copycat while the current Accord can get away with it

Jeep. I had an "XJ" Cherokee and loved it. The current Cherokee is a mess. The Gladiator looks odd in person.

I have an MB and I like it, but the service and quality issues have ended my affection.
I am leaning toward the Genesis G70 for me and the Lexus E350 F-Sport for my wife.
I have soured on the German cars overall. At on point I wanted a 3 Series, but you have to load it up with $15 K in options to make it drive like a BMW.

Acura... I miss the Integra and I had several 3rd gen TL's but after that model change, I left the brand completely.

I have ended my relationship with Mercedes Benz. Started with a 2000 ML320, then a 2002 S500, then a 2008 S550, then a 2010 ML350, then a 2012 S550, then a 2013 GL350 Bluetec. That is six MB's all purchased outright.

Relationship soured with mechanical issues with GL350 Bluetec (traded w/35,000 miles on a new Porsche Cayenne S this June - which is a fantastic vehicle) and I thought the 2012 S550 would be with me for a few more years (4 cars in family, none of which accumulate miles).

In July S550 check engine light came on (45,000 miles) and it turned out some oil bushings had dried out and slow oil leak had cooked the ECM and other electronics - bill came to $6,000 but dealer waived some labor and it cost $4,000. Then the LCD screen went purple but still functioned (another $4,000 but before it failed I traded it).

New ride - 2020 BMW 750i which I really love. I do not like the droopy diaper styling of MB products and claustrophobic interior. BMW interior is beautiful with wood and EVERYTHING covered in Nappa leather - also windows are large and interior is very airy, unlike MB products.

MB lost me as a customer mostly due to styling. Plus MB sedan demo is skewing very senior citizen. I love the Porsche and really like the BMW 750i. The grill is growing on me (not that it needs to grow any larger!)..

I am back to my BMW roots (1990 325iC 'E30" - car I never should have sold).

Driving my last BMW (F30 RWD 328i manual). I follow the manual transmission and the Genesis G70 is the one to get next, or a VW Golf 4motion wagon.

I have a great fun car in a Porsche now so I'm willing to drive a pedestrian daily car now as long as I'm rowing my own gears.

BMW as mentioned above has lost the styling and driving dynamics I want. I had the E46 generation and it was amazing compared to my current F30. Probably why I got the P-car. It's another level awesome.

I've always had a love/hate relationship with Honda/Acura. Cars like the first gen Integra, S2000, Integra GSR, TL Type-S, NSX had me loving the brand. Then the bean counters came along and neutered the brand. Honda has bounced back (mostly) in the past 2 years with the incredible Accord and Civic products. And now Acura is aiming to come back with the Type-S.

I went to Audi and BMW. Audi's styling approach in 2008 had me at hello, then they became their own worst enemy when they started introducing angular styling elements. It all became very cold and unemotional, and some, downright ugly. BMW's styling hasn't moved since I can't remember when. And their driving dynamics, while still pretty darn good, strayed from its core. Their new products seem to have brought the fun back, but others have caught up, quickly.

Transitioned to Porsche from BMW. Huge step up!

Will likely pick Porsche, Mercedes, or something more exotic from now on.
