Tesla Delays Nürburgring Record Attempt Over Safety Concerns - Claims Laguna Seca Record Instead

Tesla CEO Elon Musk says that they broke the fastest lap record for 4-door vehicles at Laguna Seca racetrack, and they are going to release a video about it soon.

Following the recent launch of the Porsche Taycan, Musk appears to be on a mission to show that Tesla’s vehicles are still the highest-performance EVs available today.

Last week, he said that Tesla would bring a Model S to Nürburgring race track — right after Porsche established a new 4-door electric car record at the track.

Why was Laguna Seca Tesla’s choice and not Nürburgring?

[WeatherTech Raceway] Laguna Seca is a paved road racing track in central California used for both auto racing and motorcycle racing, built in 1957 near both Salinas and Monterey, California, United States. The racetrack is 2.238 miles long, with a 180 feet elevation change

How is Nurburgring different from Laguna Seca?

The Nürburgring features a Grand Prix race track built in 1984, and a much longer Nordschleife "North loop" track which was built in the 1920s around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel mountains. The north loop is 20.8 km (12.9 mi) long and has more than 300 metres (1,000 feet) of elevation change from its lowest to highest points. Jackie Stewart nicknamed the old track "The Green Hell".

How would a Tesla fare at Nürburgring?

A stock Tesla would very likely suffer battery overheating and definitely brake overheating issues if it was run ‘all-out’ on the ‘Ring’ because of the track length (12.9 miles) and elevation changes (1,000 feet).

The tracks are not comparable and it is NOT an accomplishment to say the Tesla was the fastest 4-door around Laguna Seca.

Elon tweeted that Tesla has to "tune Model S thoroughly for safety on Nürburgring"

So that means the Model S is currently not safe on the 'ring. Fail!

What a load of crap. Read Mack Hogan's article in Jalopnik about why Audi prioritizes charge speed over range and the technology they use to cool the batteries and the motors.
This is why you will not hear about fires and why it can run Nuremberg without overheating.

Laguna Seca is a great track but it is not the international benchmark for testing cars. Can you name any manufacturer other than Tesla that benchmarks cars at Laguna? I thought not.
