Elon Musk Claims New Roadster Will Attempt To Break Nürburgring Record Next Year
Elon Musk says that Tesla will bring the new Roadster supercar to the Nürburgring racetrack to attempt to break the record.

As we previously reported, following the recent launch of the Porsche Taycan, Musk appears to be on a mission to show that Tesla’s vehicles are still the highest-performing EVs available today.

Last week, he said that Tesla would bring a Model S to Nürburgring race track — right after Porsche established a new 4-door electric car record at the track.

Shouldn't he be able to have one Tesla make around the ring before he starts making claims?

Why was Laguna Seca Tesla’s choice for now and not Nürburgring?

[WeatherTech Raceway] Laguna Seca is a paved road racing track in central California used for both auto racing and motorcycle racing, built in 1957 near both Salinas and Monterey, California, United States. The racetrack is 2.238 miles long, with a 180 feet elevation change

How is Nurburgring different from Laguna Seca?

The Nürburgring features a Grand Prix race track built in 1984, and a much longer Nordschleife "North loop" track which was built in the 1920s around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel mountains. The north loop is 20.8 km (12.9 mi) long and has more than 300 metres (1,000 feet) of elevation change from its lowest to highest points. Jackie Stewart nicknamed the old track "The Green Hell".

How would a Tesla fare at Nürburgring?

A stock Tesla would very likely suffer battery overheating and definitely brake overheating issues if it was run ‘all-out’ on the ‘Ring’ because of the track length (12.9 miles) and elevation changes (1,000 feet).

The tracks are not comparable and it is NOT an accomplishment to say the Tesla was the fastest 4-door around Laguna Seca.

Will this be coming from a Tesla Factory or from outer space?

There is a lot of EV activity as witnessed at the Frankfort Auto Show. The VW ID, the MB EQS, the new Hyundai concept. I have also seen a lot of coverage of the new LR Defender, BMW 4 Series and others.
Quit looking for reasons to blame the non-fox news for not fawning over DD.

Oh, and Jaguar announced their new flagship will be all electric.

And because it's a Jaguar, it will sell poorly and be of abysmal quality.

A "NEW" Model S just got the record at Laguna Sec.

It's a race track isn't it?

See the excellent post above from mre30. Nurburgring is about six times longer and has 5x times greater elevation change. This would overheat the batteries on the Tesla and Elon knew this.
You fanboys want to know why the European EVs now hitting the market have lower range? Like the Porsche and Audi the have far superior battery cooling and in the case of the Porsche, motor cooling. Both only utilize 85 percent of battery cells as this allows for faster charging and is safer. With faster charging and given typical European driving distances, 250 miles of range and safety are preferable. Better engineered EVs.

Interesting post Truthy, not sure I agree with all of it but it does show... competition drives improvements. Now they need to get a few racing series for regular production electric cars. Nothing improves the breed faster than real racing.

Even at 85%, the Tesla still has 30% more range. The Model 3 batteries also are way more resistant to overheating with cheaper/simpler tech than the Model S or Porsche.

Eventually we'll see how a stock car does. I also think the new powertrain isn't vaporware.. they have been testing it on the Roadster 2.0 for years. 3 motors, craptons of torque.

So in a year from now the vaporware supercar that doesn't exist will beat a Porsche sedan. Uh, ok.

Try again Elon. Try an official lap on the 'Ring with any showroom car in 100% stock condition. I dare you. Oh, forget it. No one likes humiliation.
