Tesla Claims New Plaid Powertrain Could Mean The Death Of The Taycan
Now that Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the company’s research and development team have revealed the existence of upcoming ‘Plaid Powertrain’ variants, a few more questions about their recently-announced competition come to mind. Will the Porsche Taycan’s engineering achievements be overshadowed before they’ve even been enjoyed by future customers? Will Taycan reservation holders decide to wait for Tesla’s newest Model S to come out before making their Porsche purchas

Musk’s latest play to stop the competition looks like it may just be as effective as he’s hoping it will be. Brian from the YouTube channel i1Tesla summed the move up nicely in a message to Porsche: “Your car’s not even out yet, and Tesla’s diminishing what you’re going to be doing…With powertrain technology and battery technology…Tesla is so superior.” Brian further opined that what the Taycan has ultimately achieved is along the lines of what Tesla did with the Model S in 2012, or perhaps a step above it. The Plaid system then becomes an achievement that renders the question of whether the Taycan is a ‘Tesla killer’ completely moot.

Tesla has already announced that they do not plan to update the model S - anytime soon. Adding additional power is what manufacturers do at the end of a Product Cycle - and of course - WE all expect Porsche to do that with the Taycan eventually as well. But right now - the Taycan will be the NEW car competing against one that is already old.

I am coining a urban phrase this morning..."WeWorked"; its a verb.

As some of you know, "WeWork" is the predecessor name of the "We" company which was supposed to go public in the past month or so, but which has been delayed.

From Reuters.. The We Company is contemplating slashing its valuation to as low as $10 billion from the $47 billion billing clinched in a private fundraising round in January backed by Japan’s SoftBank Group Corp, people familiar with the matter said on Friday.

How does this relate to Tesla? Well, Tesla has had its ups and downs this year (52 week stock trading range from high of $379.49 down to a low of $176.99 and currently at about $240) not to mention the Model 3 challenges and the usual exploding Tesla fires, though Autopilot deaths have seem to abated.

If you follow the WeWork story - there are amazing parallels to Tesla - related party issues, an iconic founder who has perhaps made some questionable life choices which have reflected very poorly on the business, lack of profitability, but most of all - trying to make a staid business (rental real estate in WeWork's case and Vehicle manufacturing in Tesla's case) seem like a sexy tech play.

As WeWork's value (on paper) has bascially gone down by 75% overnight due to investors comparing it the valuations of other established players (who are profitable), is it only a matter of time before the same thing happens to Tesla - and people conclude that its just a start up car company after all.

Is Tesla about to get "WeWorked", where its future prospects get knee-capped (so its value is more in line with GM and Ford)?

Also, pouch batteries like on the Taycan are less dense and less efficient than cyclindrical batteries but are easier to manufacturer. As experts have pointed out, Tesla is far ahead when it comes to battery tech on the Model 3. The Model S for whatever reason is still using similar tech as in 2013 (albeit with higher densities). Cooling is much better on the 3 as well for both the battery and the motor. On a track the motor on the old S will overheat before the battery, that doesn't happen on the 3.

Another post from the Teslarati fanboy site.
What these sycophants miss is that Porsche has a far more effective battery cooling system and a motor cooling system which allows the Porsche to handle more challenging conditions.
The range was limited intentionally to allow for the improved cooling and a faster charge.
The additional range of the Tesla is great on paper, but comes at the fire higher risk of overheating. And if you drive it in ludicrous mode your range will halve.
Porsche has built a better EV and Elon adding a faster 0 -60 time is meaningless and desperate.

Teslarati reads like a cult site.

It's called Teslarati, it's pretty much a fan site. Elektrek is slightly less biased.

Experts that are paid by Tesla. Unbiased sources will go into detail about the cooling and charging advantages of the Porsche and others will point to the fact that Tesla autopilot is behind GM and possibly others.
The only people who still push the "Tesla is best, Elon is infallible" mantra are fanboys.

No Truthy, Monroe & Associates is not paid by Tesla and was extremely critical of the Model 3 early on and changed their tune once they ripped one open. They are a company that primarily consult for traditional companies and are hired to compare the best EVs on the market. They analyzed and costed every component in the Model 3, i3, Bolt, etc.

First, the guy in the video is an idiot, claim that Porsche is already obsolete a week it came out because Elon announced a faster car that not even out and has no timeline, WTF. Please, no more commentary from the Kool-aid dring Tesla cult echo chamber.

Still waiting for those overdue ring times.
