Volkswagen ID 4 To Sucker Punch Tesla By Undercutting Model Y By $10,000

With the ID 3, Volkswagen is officially launching the first of a new wave of EVs that it’s conceived as “electric vehicles for millions, not millionaires.”

The U.S. won’t be getting the vehicle that kicks it all off—the Golf-sized ID 3. Instead we’ll be getting a larger model (rumored to be called ID 4 or ID 4X) based on the ID Crozz concept, and about the size of the U.S. Tiguan—a generously sized compact SUV that’s about the size of the Tesla Model Y and currently rivals the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Ford Escape, among others.

And it might not be any more expensive than the Tiguan—a claim that could undercut the Tesla Model Y by up to $10,000.

Funny that VW would just go back and copy the DBX show car concept from a few years ago. Right down to the side feature and the silver roof "rails". No better ideas?

What is wrong with that? It looks good.
And Tesla just jacked up a model 3. No better ideas?

So instead of being $70K it will be $60K (the customary fake VW base price plus cha ching cha ching option packages no doubt)?

The concept looks really nice.

I think it will be a bit smaller than the Y, more like a compact SUV versus a midsize SUV.

If they can sell this for $29k, that would be a huge win for EV enthusiasts. It will surely give the Kona and Niro a run for their money and put pressure on the Y.

I think most people will disagree and gladly take a Model 3 over an ID.3. We'll have to wait and see how the ID.4 compares to the Y.

I actually drive one so yes I have seen Model 3 wheel. I didn't like the aesthetics of it initially compared to a normal wheel like on the S. It's leather, not plastic. The grip and handling of the wheel is excellent, the steering is more precise than the S and BMW 3-series. It was designed to look simple and fade out, they even hid the stitching on the side. In 2 years, there might not be a wheel. It will probably be more of a video game controller or removed completely.

The end of Tesla will be GM buying them.

Their market caps are very close, would be a challenging acquisition.
