Daimler HALTING All Future Development Of Gasoline Engines - Focus Shifts To EVs

Daimler has just announced that it is halting all future development of gasoline engines. The automaker will solely focus on electric cars from here on out. This implies that Mercedes-Benz is taking the same approach.

The future is electric. We all know that and so too does Daimler now with this move to electric-drive only for future vehicles.

Sweet, Honda is making a hybrid.. who cares. Hybrids sales are dying and are being replaced with EVs.

I would concede the point that EV's are here now and will be in the future but.... big mistake to any auto mfg. that will be 100% electric because the infrastructure cannot support a nation of 100% EV's. We just do not have enough "JUICE"

Plenty of juice, grid storage can increase our energy production by 50-75% with no new plants. Renewables are constantly being added to the grid as well (perhaps too much in CA).

I for one don't believe it. ICE engines will be around for quite some time and Daimler will not let competitors get a leg up on ICE gas mileage, emission and performance gains or fail to meet future ICE government mandated regulations.

They might be around for a while just like flip phones were around for a few years after the iPhone came out. Don't expect much ICE innovation or a good bang for your buck during the transitional years.

Daimler said "no new petrol engines".

M-B isn't quite there yet.

The mechanicals of ICE engines have probably reached their zenith, but the technology to control the combustion could obviously continue as could hybridization.

Take them away for oil and gas as well as we'll see.
