Tesla To Return To The Nurburgring Next Month - Targeting An Incredible 7:05 Lap Time

Tesla says a 7:20 lap time it the Nurburgring is possible right now, but improvements to the Model S Plaid will drop that time way down when the automaker returns to the track next month.

Reports indicate that there are possibly four Tesla Model S sedans that have been lapping the Nurburgring over the past several days.

They beat the Taycan by 20 seconds on a full run of the course, I would call that a win.

SanJose, it does not count until it is an official time, not some Tesla employee expressing an opinion.
Does this proposed 7:05 time include the towing? Is this how long it will run before it fails?

It's not an official time, so that's fair. We'll have to wait and see what they can do next month.

I wish I was on that track, looks like fun. I would rather do it in a smaller car though.

@FAQMD- The power did indeed have to come from somewhere. As there is no supercharger onsite, they brought one in. For all you know, Porsche did the same.
Lastly, if you really think ICE cars will be with us forever, you really need to wake up. The change is only picking up speed.

MB already announced they are done with ICE. The current generation of motors, will be their last. All future investment is going into EVs. Other companies will do the same.

Until they are stopped at the border.
MB did not announce they are dropping ICE.
They said future drivetrain development will be on EVs. The current crop of ICE engines at MB will be with us for some time.
And you fanboys can stop acting superior as you only care about Tesla EVs. You are all rooting for a failed nonexistent model S to beat the production Taycan time instead of celebrating it.

Change is only happening because of government mandates. The public at large is still very very skeptical.

Anywhere near 7:05 would be nuts.

That's 911 GT3 RS territory!

A 5,000 lb car already has the fastest 0-60 for a 4-door sedan, I'm sure it can be done. The S is a heavier car than the Taycan and it beat it by 20 seconds.

I fail to see how a 5,000 lb car could get anywhere near that time. It defies the laws of physics, unless it only has enough batteries to complete one lap.

A stock Mercedes-AMG GT R did 7:11, which is super impressive...but that car weighs 1,400 lbs less.

Agreed. If they do it - it will be amazing.

Porsche will do it with a stock car. Tesla will do it with a fake Model S.

Hardly. On sale in a year.

Oh Jesus F Christ! The Tesla is a ringer. It's not REMOTELY production intent. The Taycans running around are as close to production spec as they can be.

So Tesla is going to sell the Ring car in a year? That means we get what they used at the Ring - widened track, lowered race suspension, race tires, 3 motors, all sound deadening material removed, and NO interior lol.

The 3 motor powertrain for sure will make production. It'll be in the X and Roadster as well. The S already has a dynamic suspension, may not take much modification. The tires and track won't make it.

I actually just found that out as well. The Taycan they ran on the Nurburgring was not a stock car.

Dynamic suspension is not a race suspension. There's a vast difference between what they likely used at the Ring vs what they'll install on a street car. You and I would not likely tolerate the ride on that stiff of a suspension. Other than the 3 motors, nothing else from the Tesla Ring car will make it into the production version, so what we plebians get in the real world will be nothing like the car that ran on the track.

It's all BS hype and a pissing contest anyway. No one is ever going to use the real speed and handling capability of the Porsche or the Tesla. Most folks use their cars for a short burst of speed and that's about it. Rare is the driver who actually runs his car on mountain roads at speed. The cops ensure that kind of thing doesn't happen often.
