Court Clears Tesla Owner Of Animal Cruelty Charges AFTER He Proves Dog Mode Was On In Locked Car

A Tesla owner in Ireland was charged with endangering his dog after leaving it in his car, but he was finally cleared in court after proving that his Model S was on “Dog Mode.”

Tesla’s “Dog Mode” is a software feature meant to keep animals at a safe temperature inside their electric cars.

Sometimes, it can be difficult to tell if an electric vehicle is on, which can be worrying if dogs are inside the vehicle and it’s not evident that the AC is running.

I spoke to a police officer recently who had not idea a Tesla could drive by itself and the stories about drivers who fell asleep and the cars were still moving along to their destination. Police are chosen for a very specific personality type (drone). Intelligence is not necessarily part of the package. This story is yet another example of the same.

Not everybody or govt entity keeps up with every single available feature for every vehicle on the roads today. That's undestandable. But a police officer should be capable of the simplest investigation at the street level. No citation should've been written.

At best, if there is a concern about a toddler or animal left unattended in a parked vehicle...ask or seek additional information. BEFORE a window is broken to "free" an occupant.

AND when they opened the door to the guys Tesla, didn't they FEEL how much cooling the interior was compared to the exterior?
