Trump Administration Threatens To Withhold Highway Funding From California

Trump administration officials threatened this week to withhold federal highway funding from California, arguing that the state has not shown what steps it is taking to improve its air quality. The move by the Environmental Protection Agency escalates the fierce battle between President Trump and the left-leaning state, and could put billions in federal funding in jeopardy.

In a predated letter sent late Monday to the California Air Resources Board, EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler suggested that the state “has failed to carry out its most basic tasks under the Clean Air Act” and needs to either update its plans to tackle air pollution or risk losing federal money.

I find this extremely ironic. The EPA wants to penalize CA for not having clean enough air, yet is preventing CA from setting standards to clean said air.

More amature hour antics from the White House. You are dealing with state and foreign governments (Ukraine), where treaties and laws apply. Real Estate power plays do not more the ball forward, but instead land you in court or worse impeached. It doesn't have to be this way, but it is. Choices.

Canadian commie and the rest of the liberals prefer previous administrations (if they are Democrats) get away with corrupt actions to improve their self wealth without investigation. I guess it is now illegal for a current administration to investigate anything (not even prosecute, let alone convict), preventing anyone to uncover facts.

@jeffgall. Educate yourself on the issue. Then comment. Your guy in the White House really stepped in it this time. What happens next is anybody's guess.

So Joe is working with the Ukrainian government. His son, Hunter, randomly lands a job paid at $50k per month. No collision there. Adding to this, Hunter has no experience in the energy industry. Then when questioned, his dad’s boss (President Obama) is not interested in investigating. This, my friends, is liberal logic.

@Jeffgall. He was on the board. Lots of people have board seats who are from outside industries. That is what makes up a good board. Lots of different viewpoints and ideas. He was also a private citizen and can do what he wants. He is also dead. I'd focus more on trying to save your guy in the White House than chasing this dead issue.

Canadian you need to do your homework and not listen to what the spun media tells you. First Hunter Biden is alive and (somewhat) well. It was joe’s other son Beau Biden the passed away. Hunter Biden was booted out of the military for drugs, soon after his father became point man on The Obama administration Ukraine policy Hunter Biden and A high level staffer to Sec of State John Kerry were appointed to the of a Ukrainian energy company.

Money was laundered to them via Latvia and Cyprus (document paper trail). Joe Biden was also the point man on China. Hunter Biden flew on Air Force 2 with his father to China while Joe was negotiating with the Chinese, Hunter struck a deal with a Chinese government bank for his private equity fund which gave him 1.5 BILLION. There’s more , this whole thing is about to blow up in the Democrats face.

@Foncool. My bad on mixing up the son's names. At the end of the day if there was any "there" there, it would have be found and prosecuted already. The US Congress which was GOP controlled for most of the 8 years Obama was president would have investigated it themselves (Congressional oversight) and guilty parties charged. It is not like there is any love lost between the two parties to prevent it. It should all come out over the next week or so.

Canadian, you really are naive on things. First it doesn’t matter which party controls Congress, they don’t have prosecutable powers. That power is in the executive branch via the Department of Justice, which doesn’t prosecute its own.

Second the corruption gravy train is on both sides. This is the threat of trump, it’s not that he’s a republican. It is that he is an outsider who is disrupting the government/lobbying/consulting cycle of the political elites that live great lives off taxpayers funding. This is not just a USA issue but a global one.

Think for a second about what happened yesterday on the announcement of impeachment inquiry. It is based on a leaked “whistleblower complaint” from an unnamed source, that no one has seen, from an individual “whistleblower” without firsthand knowledge of the incident they were reporting.

This is straight out of the Salem Witch Trials. Pure accusation, prove your innocence.

This bogus story was investigated thoroughly by the republican congress 5 years ago. There is no wrongdoing. This is typical tRump criminal behavior. When you get caught point the finger at the other guy. He and crazy Rudy say they have "evidence" against Biden, but like future inmate tRump's taxes, won't show it.
Even tRump's big enabler, did not jump to his defense.
By law, the president cannot have government relations with a foreign government run through his personal lawyer. It is US business, must go through the state department.
He broke the law, plainly.

In my town, traffic is snarled to hell and back with two major freeway projects that were not coordinated and both projects are moving at a snail's pace. One project is dragging into its fifth year because California is trickling the money out pennies at a time.

Of course, we have plenty money to be the state that pays out three times the welfare money than the next three most generous welfare states combined.

Got to agree with Matt. Did a road trip through the Nat'l Parks east of I-5 this summer. Going over Donner Pass on I-80 the tire ruts were so deep you could take your hands off the steering wheel for miles and stay in lane. The vehicle was not equipped with auto lane keeping! I-580 out of Oakland was a washboard. The back roads were worse than the potholed roads of the northeast after a tough winter.
