Next Gen MINI To Shrink In Size And Be All EV

The future of the ever-popular MINI is being shaped behind closed doors right now, and brand boss Bernd Koerber has admitted that he has some very key goals in mind. He wants to shrink the car and turn it all-electric, and he wants to do it in time for the next-generation model, which will arrive early next decade.

Parent company BMW has been here before. In 2011 it revealed the Rocketman concept at the Geneva Motor Show, hinting at a future MINI city car powered by a range of three-cylinder engines. However, Koerber, who has been at the helm of MINI since last April, has made it clear that the firm’s next move will not be a straightforward resurrection of that concept. His preference is for MINI’s next-generation core hatchback to go back to the car’s original roots in terms of size and packaging.

Lets get real. Mini is not going all electric for quite a long time. While it may add small electric city cars to overall lineup anything more radical like all in on Ev's now would destroy its global sales base and volume.

When I walked into the local Mini dealer recently my first thought was "these cars are too big".

So the next Mini will fit you like a tight fitting pair of shoes.

Mini is dead in the water. It should have been a model sold in BMW dealers rather than a full brand.

I sure liked my wife's early MINI. There were quirks with it but it was good in spite of them. But instead of refining it, they doubled down on the weird. Lost all interest as the speedometer grew to the size of the steering wheel.

They won't do it, but a completely retro design Mini that looks as much like the original as possible but includes all the modern safety structures so it is ok to drive would be quite something. If Fiat can make a safe-ish small car like the 500, (sadly mass-safety) so can BMW.
