Jaguar's F-Type May Soon Be BMW Powered

As far as I am concerned, the Jaguar F-Type is the best car Jaguar currently makes. It’s beautiful and makes wondrous noises. But it’s also getting quite long in the tooth, and folks have been discussing the successor car for a bit now. This newest rumor furthers the idea the next F-Type could have a BMW-sourced engine. Hm.

The rumor comes via Auto Express, which asserts Jaguar Land Rover sees BMW as an extremely viable source of V8 engines for upcoming models. From the story:

Well considering Jaguar’s persistent showing at the bottom of reliability/dependability list, any engine supplier should sound good to them.

Jaguar fans won’t freak out like Toyota Supra fans because Jaguar owners are used to regular visits to the dealer workshop

You obviously don’t know Jaguar owners or have ever owned one.

You obviously aren’t familiar with J.D Powers/consumer reports or just ignore them

You obviously do not know the JD Power is in business to sell its endorsement NOT to speak the truth.

Jaguars have an obscenely high warranty incidence rate.

And you obviously would rather blame poor ratings on “endorsements”.

The fact of the matter is the numbers don’t lie and shag has been struggling for decades because of their reliability.

Just ask the poor souls who were foolish enough to own them and watch it drain their bank account LOL

That wasn’t the question, the statement was would jaguar owners freak out if they has bmw engines? The answer is yes.

Do Jaguar owners not realize that Jaguars have been running around with Ford-derived engines?

Lmao foncool either u have never owned a jag or you are the most ignorant jag owner there is because most Jag owners understand there company is simply an orphan passing through the hands of owners like Ford/Tata with man outsourced parts/equipment because jag can’t make their own

The BMW engine or any other supplier was only a matter of time

Owned a lot of jaguars and sold even more. Know the customers very well, obviously something you don’t.

Owned a lot and sold a lot? Well they say a fool is born every minute....I’m just trying to see where all these Jaguars that you sold because all I see is Bimmer, Benz, Lexus, and Tesla’s

Perhaps if you put down the blogs and put that same energy in selling, Jag wouldn’t be owned by TaTa motors and have so much trouble turning a profit...

Get out your feelings & pay attention to the numbers

Please enlighten us with your background And years in the industry, the cars you’ve actually owned not driven in a video game.

I’ve got over 30 and have worked with just about every upscale manufacturer except Rolls Royce, but it includes obscure manufacturers like Spyker, Vector, SSC Aero, Qvale, Pagani etc.

You sold cars for 30 years congrats, would you like a cookie?

Perhaps that’s why you take it personal but you should know as well as I do, the numbers don’t lie Jag has been struggling for decades, this SUV/EV era may slowly turn things around for them but For last couple of decades Jag has been irrelevant, lost, and found on the side of the road or abandoned at mechanics workshops

Hopefully Tara is applying pressure in addition to paying Jags bills and we should see them slowly emerge from the bottom of every quality/dependability/reliability list

You still haven’t given us your vast background. Put up or shut up.

Now something you don’t know, as part of PAG (Premium Auto Group) during Ford ownership, Jaguar actually rank #2 in long term quality behind Lexus. The financial issues that JLR are directly related its decision to build production in China. Like many other manufacturers they were seduced by the Oriental Temptress and a billion plus consumers.

don’t be upset because I called bullshit on you supposedly selling “a lot” of Jaguars when the company’s sales sheets don’t represent that.

I believe you are the one that claimed you had vast experience 30 plus years in sitting around watching jaguar dealerships close was it?

Again get off your keyboard, go make some sales calls, dial for dollars, go through your lease ends, and stop wasting Jag’s time, they need all their sales ppl on deck. Back to work, breaks over

JLR makes their own 6 and 8 cylinder engines right now and shares them between models in different states of tune. I would see no reason to outsource V8 engines. But if I did, I would not be putting money into the pockets of a direct competitor. If it was what I wanted to do I would ask Ford for a Coyote V8 with all its power, crackle and pops to put into the F-Type. It may be a bit old but it is always a pleasure to see one on the road.

Jaguar does not need an old American V-8 - it already has those.
What it does need is a newer V-8, newer technology- that will meet European Emission standards for at least a while - which is why they will be shopping in Europe. AS long as the administration is blocking improvements in the USA - the Ford V-8 will not be brought up to the needed standards

I'd rather see a Mercedes engine, a la the new AM Vantage.

Jaguar should use the Coyote/Voodoo V8s and the Ecoboost engines from Ford.

They should drop the V8 altogether and use BMW's inline 6 in 3.5L versions and V12s of 4-5L as the basis to make their own engines. Not sure with all the complexities of a modern engine what is possible but it would be neat if Jaguar could design the heads, determine valve timing and lift using their own engineering of BMWs VANOS system and that Valvetronic system.

Jag needs a high performance modern aluminum twin turbo V6 that produces over 400 H.P. and delivers 25 mpg. combined.

That's a good idea too, but I would say an inline 6 is more Jaguar than a V6. Smoother and plays to the heritage of Jaguar.
