BMW Considers Bringing M Badging To Motorcycles As Well
More separates the worlds of Bimmers and Beamers than just the number of wheels. The two Bavarian houses of BMW, which encompass Bimmers (cars) and Beamers (motorcycles), have had a long-standing wall dividing each other. Cracks, though, have been recently forming and it seems BMW’s ready to tear down that wall with three trademark applications that would unite the two via the brand’s M Division.

According to BMWBlog, which unearthed a score of recent trademark filings with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, BMW looks set to bring the “M” moniker to the company’s motorcycle division using three of its motorcycles.

"M" is a motorsport heritage moniker for the car division. It sadly now treated like a trim level. It also has nothing to do with BMW Motorrad. This is a dumb marketing exercise and nothing more. There is just to much of this type of fake branding these days.

I rode BMW's for the last two decades. The are already powerful and offer top performance. Other than BMW creating a ploy to charge lots more for their already very expensive and profitable motorcycles, I see no need for an "M" model.

i love car sites commenting on motorcycles which they know nothing about. First off there already is an M version of the bmw s1000rr. you are so late on this news its amazing. Anyway prior to being M BMW had made the HP Race motorcycle.
it was around 75k and a track only bike. Before that in 2013 and 2014 a motorcycle called the HP4 standard and competition model (20k and 25k). It was the High performance (HP) version of the S1000RR. I have a 2014 hp4 competition and they are numbered. Prior to that there was the boxter motor in a bike called the HP2. It was 06-07 i believe. i dont remember what bike that was but again a limited edition.

The bmw motorcycle world is more true to the M badge than the autos. the M is on everything when it use to be an exclusive in the car world. I personally would rather have the motorcycle division call it HP as everyone in the bike world knows what the HP is.
