Mercedes Keeps The Heat On In September Race With A 4.8% Increase In Sales
Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported September sales of 27,433 Mercedes-Benz models, a 4.8% increase over September 2018. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz Vans recorded September sales of 4,569, bringing MBUSA to a grand total of 32,002 vehicles for the month, an increase of 4.5%.

On a year-to-date basis, MBUSA recorded sales of 224,212 Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles and 28,845 Vans. This brings MBUSA’s year-to-date sales to 253,057 units, on par with last year’s volume.

“We saw great momentum in dealer showrooms last month thanks to additional availability of key models combined with the arrival of new models, especially the GLC SUV,” said Nicholas Speeks, president and CEO of MBUSA.

Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in September included the GLC, GLE, and C-Class model lines. The GLC led totals with 6,840 vehicles followed by GLE with sales of 4,862. The C-Class rounded out the top three with 4,073 units.

September sales of Mercedes-AMG high-performance models totaled 2,012 units (+46.0%) with 24,968 vehicles sold year-to-date (+20.4%).

Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) models recorded sales of 10,191 vehicles in September, a decrease of 0.8% versus last year. On a year-to-date basis, MBCPO sold 97,668 vehicles, an increase of 2.2% from the previous year.

Wow Benz beat Bimmer in every major category with exception of the C and GLA both being replaced soon and gave Bimmer a slight sales advantage for the month.

At this rate Benz will definitely hang on to the global lead, and shouldn’t finish far behind Bimmer in the US

Not really. The C class, E, class, S class, GLC, and GLE include multiple bodystyles that are split off separately in BMW's figures. For example, the S class numbers include sedan, coupe, and convertible, which at BMW would be 7 series and 8 series, and those combined are higher than the Benz. Same with C class vs 3/4 Series, GLC vs X3/X4, with BMW ahead if you combine them. BMW doesn't have an E-class wagon/coupe/convertible competitor, so they're always going to be behind there, and there aren't any X6's since the all-new X6 is about to hit showrooms, so the X5/X6 numbers are temporarily behind the combined GLE figures. Ditto the A-class/CLA, where the 2GC is coming but BMW has nothing to line up with those currently.

Frankly, if you look at the numbers impartially both brands are virtually identical.

Yes Really, I noticed you left out the GLS/X7, A/2, i8/AMG GT, S Class coupe averages around 100 units or less, so sedan wise yes the S beat has been beating the 7, the 5 series can also include 6 series which combined is still less than the E, slop there aren’t aloud of GLE coupes either as those are being replaced so no excuse for the X6 -and the X7 still got beat by the transitioning GLS

So again the 3 series/ x1/x2 gave the advantage to Bimmer which are newer than the soon to be replaced C and GLA

And remember Bimmer doesn’t touch Benz globally

sorry, that's my fault, I should have been more clear. When I said "if you look at the numbers impartially, both brands are virtually identical", what I meant was "if you don't work for Mercedes, and are actually capable of having an unbiased discussion without just spouting off nonsense about how great your brand is, you'll see the combined figures of each of their competitive classes is virtually identical. Because they are. Period."

Question Mark. When you get out of your feelings and realize Benz is widening it’s lead globally and still competitive with Bimmer in the states with an aging lineup that is do for replacement or being replaced right now, you will see as the GLS has already shown this month, Benz has planted seeds for spectacular sales and the next few months is harvesting time for them. Period.
