Tesla Delivers A Record 97,000 Vehicles In Q3 - Will That Silence the Critics?
Tesla released its Q3 2019 delivery and production numbers today after market-close and the company confirmed a new delivery record of 97,000 vehicles.

Over the last week, we have been reporting that CEO Elon Musk told employees in an email that Tesla “has a shot” at delivering 100,000 vehicles during the third quarter.

Apparently not. TESLA stock continues to crash because the critics think TESLA will not become a profitable company anytime soon and with the onslaught of new electric cars coming in the market, TESLA's future doesn't look to promising.

LMAO Tesla’s future hasn’t looked promising since its inception but apparently they are still standing and well...running. They just have to figure out how to churn a profit off these record sales.

In terms of the competition, have you seen the E Tron’s sales last month? Pitiful.

Porsche is smart rushing to deliver and close as many of those 30k pre orders as possible before Tesla launches the new model S which should wipe the floor with the Taycan since it only manages to keep up with the current Model S

Actually, the gross margin on the model is under 19 percent. Gross margin does not guarantee profitably for the company, obviously as tesla keeps losing money as a company. And the forecast is they will lose money again when financial results are announced for the 3rd quarter. Again to remind you, tesla is a structurally unprofitable company.

supermotosupermoto - 10/3/2019 1:44:39 PM

Now there is no profitability expected until 2021 at the earliest.

Model S and X are dead. Model 3 continues to lose money - the more Tesla sells, the bigger the loss. It's not a viable business.

It's funny how you think sales of 60,000/year is dead. That is double the production numbers of the Taycan for 2020.

Um, I'm not comparing the sale to the 3. S/X alone are over 60,000 a year... again double Porsche's best forecast for 2020.

Throw in Model 3 and you're looking at 450,000 cars a year in 2020 if not more.

FAQMD, that's a fair point although I think they are all around a 25% gross margin right now.

Having come so close to the 100k mark, they will strive for it in the following quarters. Considering the dollars Softbank has thrown at We Work and Uber and the lack of profitability in each, the Tesla business looks much better. The big jump in revenue and profit will come when the Model Y CUV hits showrooms.

I don't understand why so many people pull for Tesla to fail. I get that Musk can be annoying. There's lots of that on Twitter to go around. It's the first new car manufacturer in the US in many decades that might make a shot of being successful.

Some of you don't like EVs. Fine, you don't have to. But why bring such negativity? If you don't like reading news about Tesla, then don't click on the post. All you do is drive up the clicks and encourage more coverage. Or are you all holding short positions in Tesla stock?

I don't own a Tesla, and likely never will. I do expect my next car to be an EV, most likely the VW ID.4, or perhaps a Niro EV.

Musk can be annoying? No. He's a charlatan. He's a snake oil salesman. He called a guy who rescued trapped kids a pedophile, then doubled down on it. Most of all, he might just be a criminal. That's why people root against him, not because "he can be annoying". It's amazing to me anyone roots FOR him.

90% of the down votes are from someone that has too much time on their hands creating duplicate accounts.

Have to give Elon credit for thinking big and challenging the status quo with Tesla, SpaceX, and the Boring Company. Sometimes he acts super impulsively and says things he shouldn't and his targets are usually very optimistic.

No musk is just the perfect scheming douchey asshole and hence the hatred here amongst many of us gear heads. I personally want to see Tesla succeed and almost bought a Model S myself years ago before getting all learned on the little weasel Musk or PT Barnum as I prefer to refer to him as. I really thing Tesla could flourish if they removed Musk preferably to a federal penitentiary -where he belongs for securities fraud and other shenanigans...

Back to the original article, it won't silence the critics because billions are ($8-10 billion to be precise) are betting on Tesla to fail and those people will do anything possible to make that happen.

I don't think Tesla will turn a profit this quarter, my best guess is they will lose $250-350 million. Sales were up, but the manufactured way more cars so costs will go up as well. Unless they brought the margin way down, I don't think they did enough to turn a profit. I think they'll need to get to 120,000 cars in Q4 to turn a profit in Q4. It might be doable with Gigafactory 3, we'll see.

Tesla is chasing sales. Their problem is they have no money to properly address quality control or customer service. That will be their undoing once Porsche and Volkswagen start selling their vehicles on the market. People are always complaining about the wait to get their cars looked at by these repair centers. It seems to be a common customer complaint regarding Tesla. Ultimately people will not give a rats ass about zero to 60 times if their cars don't run right, are not built right, and suffer from inadequate customer service.
