The Grand Tour's Jeremy Clarkson RIPS Into Climate Activist, Greta Thunberg — SEE What He Said HERE

The Grand Tour's Jeremy Clarkson RIPS Into Climate Activist, Greta Thunberg — SEE What He Said HERE
Last week was a bit of a circus in New York City. You just had to be at the UN to see the three-rings in full effect.

Probably the climax of the week came when a 16-year-old climate activist, Greta Thunberg, took attendees to task for failing to address climate change. Thunberg then noted that due to politicians inaction, they had effectively ruined her childhood.

Hyperbolic much?

After seeing the lamestream media lovefest for Thunberg, I couldn't help but wonder if anyone would stand up and ask the $60,000 question: Who the hell does this child — who has no real life experience — think she is to lecture anyone about what's going on?

It turns out not all hero wear capes, Spies. In fact, some guzzle pints and chain smoke. Enter Jeremy Clarkson. The Grand Tour's most famous presenter knocked Thunberg down a peg or two.

As far as we can tell it doesn't appear Amazon has canceled The Grand Tour yet, so, perhaps there's hope for us all.

In the speech, she accused everyone in the room of ruining her childhood by forcing her to take on the responsibility of making change to our climate to save our planet but now The Grand Tour host has slammed the teenager and suggested she needed to think about everything that adults have done for her.

‘How dare you sail to America on a carbon fibre yacht that you didn’t build which cost £15million, that you didn’t earn, and which has a back-up diesel engine that you didn’t mention,’ he said in a column for The Sun.

‘Pause for a moment to consider how soundly you sleep at night, knowing that adults are building and servicing and flying Sweden’s fighter planes. To keep you safe. We gave you mobile phones and laptops and the internet. We created the social media you use every day and we run the banks that pay for it all,’ he added.

‘So how dare you stand there and lecture us, you spoilt brat.’

She's a "little" over-dramatic, but not wrong. Tens of thousands of people are dying each year from crap air quality and we've been slow to do anything about it or care. Cars are a drop in the bucket, the solution would require major changes to manufacturing, energy generation, air travel... I think we'll get there over the long run.

I hear people rant on about climate change, but none are stopping behaviors:
1.). Why is SUV popularity at an all time high to the point where manufactures are reducing traditional car models.
2.) Everyone is blasting AC all summer, and into the fall. Growing up, I only had a fan and survived. Or heating their pools.
3.) Amazon - all the carbon it takes to deliver packages individually, plus the cardboard waste. Just take one trip to Target.
4.). No one is stopping from going on vacations. If you are so worried, stay home.
5.). Live closer to your place of work and ditch the 30 minute plus commute.
6.). My office stopped bottled water. Now we have a bunch of glass. Are you telling me the carbon it takes to manufacture glass and ship it is less? What is so wrong with tap water.

I could go on all day.
Bunch of hypocrites

A lot of that is true. Climate change is a serious problem, but even the people who are trying to engage to solve it are themselves still doing things that are damaging the environment.

Just them stopping wouldn't make a serious impact, it would take the collective effort of all of humanity (or at least those that are doing these things).

We've become used to a quality of life, and until we can find solutions without serious diminishing that, things aren't going to change much. I can't say I blame people for it, but it is unfortunate.

And for her next trick Greta will balance a ball on her nose like any other trained seal.

Like everything else in life climate is cyclical, it warms it cools. Some cycle are large (longer) and some small (shorter) there are cycles within cycles. Nothing is as arrogant as the people that think their presence and actions can change it.

NewQNewQ - 10/4/2019 10:28:44 AM
-7 Boost
The cycles tend to be on the scale of tens of thousands or the low hundreds of thousands of years. The cycles themselves are influenced by secondary motions of the planet known as the "Milankovitch Cycles" taking place over similar timeframes.

There have been briefer anomalous periods in the past, such as the "Little Ice Age" in Europe, and the theorized heat wave that is thought to have helped ruin the Mayan Empire.

Neither of those are in step with the consistent trend that's been seen over the past 100 years are so. Additionally, ice cores have shown that there is a positive correlation between CO2, Methane, and other so-called "greenhouse" gasses and temperature. On top of that, those chemicals are known to allow visible wavelength light (and radio waves largely) to transmit through the atmosphere to be absorbed by the Earth. The Earth in turn, with its lower temperature compared to the sun, re-emits the same radiation at a lower wavelength in the infrared spectrum, as per the principles of blackbody radiation. The radiation at these wavelengths is now reflected and absorbed/re-emitted by the same "greenhouse" gasses, rather than transmitted again. When infrared radiation comes from the sun, it's absorbed and emitted back in to space, when it comes from the Earth, it's absorbed and emitted back to the surface, effectively holding it in it and trapping it.

So, we know the planet is warming at a rate that is faster and more drastic than at previous points in history.

We know "greenhouse" gas presence is positively correlated with temperature.

And we know these "greenhouse" gasses allow light in from the sun, but trap the resulting heat that comes back from the Earth; and we understand well the principles behind it.

Those three things taken together seem to lend themselves to the conclusion that human activity is having an outsized impact on global temperatures and the resulting varied climate activity.

The dramatic rise in global temperatures - most importantly upper atmosphere and ocean temperatures - has happened in the last 159 years. It has particularly increased in the last 50. CO2 levels in the upper atmosphere crossed the 4 ppm threshold for the first time ever. There is no arguement by people who understand this. Saying it is not man-made is just another form of denial.
