It's COMING! According To Tesla's Elon Musk, The Pick-up Truck Reveal Is Happening As Planned
As of this week it's been confirmed. Tesla's pick-up truck reveal is still slated for a November unveiling.

But, it's more complicated than that.

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise. It's Tesla, after all. Keep in mind: We're still awaiting the second-gen Tesla Roadster and the Semi, which have yet to materialize. It's been about two years since we saw those products get their "reveal."

Frankly, expect this to be more of a fundraising event than a product reveal. And don't forget: The Model Y has yet to be put into production.

What we know about Tesla's pick-up truck, for now. It will feature a forward-thinking design that's unlike anything else. Elon Musk has described it as "cyberpunk" and "Blade Runner-esque," whatever that means. In addition, bold claims from Tesla suggest it will cost under $50,000 and handle like a Porsche 911. Oh, it will also tow up to 300,000 pounds of capacity and have a range of 400-500 miles on a full charge.

It all sounds a bit rich at the moment but let's see what comes about for November. Stay tuned!

Currently - There is NO possibility that an EV pick up could cost $50,000 - and have enough batteries to have a 400-500 mile range WHILE towing 300,000 lbs - and still handle like a Porsche too. The weight of the batteries alone would be gigantic.

I completely agree!

Unless, there's some MAJOR advancement in battery technology, which doesn't appear to be on the horizon.

I think there was some misinterpretation here. The truck will start under $50k but that will probably only get 200 miles or so of range. I would expect 400 miles to be $70k or more. The Model 3 long range battery is about $12k to manufacture. If they use two of them for 150 KWh, that should be enough for 400 miles or so on an extremely aerodynamic truck.

Yea totally agree, maybe handle like an M3 but not a Porsche :)

001 here to make the CALL...Hands down and you're hearing it here, he going to steal the thunder of the LA Auto Show with this announcement. Monday, November 18th would be the best guess. That way he owns the buzz of the media all week and everything gets compared to that.

Why is this even news with Elon's record of hyperbole broken promises?
Would you ride into space in one of his underengineered SpaceEx rockets?

You mean the most advanced rockets ever built right? Hate on Tesla all you want, no one is even close to SpaceX, they are dangerously close to a monopoly.

Have to agree with SanJoseDriver, SpaceX has been super innovative in their short existence. They have made huge leaps with reusable rockets and large heavy lifters being the most visible results Yes they are pushing the envelope and I am sure there will be setbacks such as the recent one with the Dragon capsule. I believe they will do everything they can to make sure no lives are lost in the process for both selfish and selfless reasons. However space exploration is very unforgiving and we have lost a number of astronauts in this endeavor even with the best engineers and scientists at NASA, and unfortunately we will likely loose more as we push ahead.

The capsule catching on fire, which would have killed the documents, fire being a theme in Tesla products, is a setback? That is minimizing the incident. NASA has real concerns about dealing with Elon due to his arrogance and glossing over problems.
You should consider other sources than Teslarati.com.

NASA also had a fire in one of their capsules that killed 3 astronauts... and I get my news and information from a broad array of sources including NASAs own blog with tons of info on how they view SpaceX and the Dragon capsules. They use the unmanned version all the time for missions to the space station. If they were concerned about shoddy engineering I doubt they would let it close to the space station.

Yes, that was Apollo 1, which set stopped the program for 18 months while an investigation took place. Significant changes were made to the capsule. All I have read from Elon is that Dragon capsule had an "easily fixed" problem that we never heard anything else about. I would not ride up in that thing.

Keep the ponzi scheme alive! Make a deposit (donation) now for a vaporware product which will hopefully to keep Tesla from bankruptcy. Note that if Tesla goes bankrupt, you forfeit your deposit. Operators are standing by.

Typical Tesla: no engineering, no prototypes, just design it for cheap and crank out the garbage.

Rivian is already set to manufacture an all electric pick up with a 400 mile range in 2020. I live in the town where they are making these cars and got to meet the CEO and see the cars up close. I am not affiliated with the company in any way but I believe they are going to be the next big thing. I would pose pictures that I took but am not sure how to do so.

Rivian also has secured a contract with Amazon to produce 100,000 electric delivery vans for Amazon.

The Rivian truck looks amazing, think (and hope) it will be a big success.

Shouldn't Tesla focus on making money rather than producing yet even more money loosing products or is this just more "sizzle" to deflect from the more pending issues like capital burn and increased competition?

At minimum it will force other companies like Ford and GM to speed up their transition to EV trucks, even if this thing does not sell in huge numbers. I can't wait to see what it actually looks like, the image above is actually an official image of the truck (front part).
