How Much Is The MAX You'd Pay For The Poor Man's Audi Q8, The VW Atlas Cross Sport?
In any all-new vehicle press release, one of my least favorite lines goes something like, "Pricing and more details will be covered closer to the vehicle's xx launch." I understand that this usually is done to take into account for a more palatable price due to exchange rates, but still.

This past week our friends on Volkswagen dropped another all-new product on us. Dubbed the Atlas Cross Sport, it follows a similar concept from the 2018 New York Auto Show (NYIAS).

Considering the seven-seater Atlas starts at about $31,000, it seems like it would make sense if the base variant of the Cross Sport retails around $33-34,000/unit — at least to me. Having said that, this made me wonder: Just how much should this sport-utility vehicle retail for? In fact, what's the MOST a reasonable person would pay for it?

So, Spies, what say you? Considering the Cross Sport is a poor man's Audi Q8, what's the top dollar you'd pay for this all-new VW?

To gain any traction for sales, this has to be value priced. $35K nicely equipped and $40K well-equipped is where it needs to be. The top end will be much more than that.

Probably about where the Atlas is now is the limit.

Aside from the terrible ride, the Atlas' worst feature is the engine choices.

It would benefit VW if the put a more powerful engine into the Atlas lineup - maybe the inline turbo 4 from the Golf R, which should screw right in.

It would be really cool if VW did an "Atlas Crosssport GTI" with the corporate turbo V6 that is in the base Cayenne and the Q8. VW could charge $$$$ for that and people would pay it.

Aside from the terrible ride quality and the weak powertrain choices, the CrossSport is at least a handsome design.

Agreed.

The ride quality on the Atlas is abysmal. I've informed friends/colleagues that were curious about it yet they still took the plunge.

I hear what you're saying regarding a better powerplant. Wouldn't be surprised if VW rolls out the GT nameplate across its other products (e.g. like the Passat GT).

The interior is bland beyond description. VW long ago lost the plot on quality interiors. What happened?

Not true. VW's own data shows Mexican products typically have fewer issues than the real German VWs with American VWs being somewhere in the middle.

It's utterly generic. VW avoids taking any styling risk by avoiding style altogether.

45k max for R-Line fully optioned. I like the idea of a GTI version but not more than 47k out the door
