Volkswagen Fights Back - Now Says It Has No Plans To Sell Supercar Maker

Getting rid of SEAT and or Skoda would make sense.

Then reposition VW as the base brand.

Reposition Audi as a near-premium.

Porsche is premium to near-exotic.

Reposition Bentley as the luxury sedan/crossover premium brand.

Bugatti is their Rolls Royce.

I'd agree with most of that. But somehow they have to get out of this mindset where VW thinks it is Audi, Where Audi thinks it is Porsche and where Porsche thinks it is Bugatti. There really should be no 918, nor should there be an R8. VW should not be making a Toureg and not ever do a Passat again. The brands need to stay in their price bands for it all to work. Bentley is doing a good job of that. As Bugatti starts at $2.5M or so, they would have to drop $2M or more in price for an entry model to compete with Rolls Royce at $350-$500k before bespoke options.

SEAT and Skoda are localized brands within the EU and are basically rebadged and decontented VWs. The interesting thing and it’s not just related to VW Group the mass market brands are trying to go upscale for larger profit margins and the upscale brands want to go down market for greater volume.
