The Snow Is Starting In Spots Around The USA And Canada. WHICH UNDER 20k WINTER BEATER Do You Recommend This Year?

Before I get into it, let me first wish our Canadian readers a very Happy Thanksgiving!

We truly appreciate you and are thankful you visit!

I spent many great years in Canada and have amazing friends and family there. So we hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend.

It may only be days after 001's birthday, but snow is ALREADY showing up in places around the USA and Canada. Denver/Boulder and Alberta are just two places that got the angry reminder that winter is coming for them...

Tonight, we want to know what are your FAVORITE BEATERS on the market today for under $20K USD? Not just AWD/4WD. What non-4 wheels do you like as well.

Beaters are awesome...kind of. They're the kind of cars that you can take out and not worry about someone scratching, keying or knocking into it with a shopping cart. And with the right drive and tire setup, they're a blast to drive in the snow and on ice.

Which ones are you recommending to friends and family in 2019?

I agree with your choices However

Years ago - I had an X car - Pontiac Phoenix - with a V^ which was front heavy - and with Snow Tires and chains - it could pretty much go anywhere on road (I would not go offroading in a blizzard) - and IF I could not get there - neither did most others. Did not need a 4x4 then (Although I had a Bronco then too) With Global warming - I suspect my need for a real 4x4 in NJ is dimming.

Decade old ML 63s/X5 Ms a blast and the 1st/2nd owner usually took care of major repairs

Yeah...nothing more reliable than a 10 year old ML63 or X5M. Its as good as a Honda.

Was really surprised how well a third gen. CRV did in PA snow considering the crappy AWD slushbox transaxle with no real low gear, and all-season tires.

An Audi TT or a 2010 or so Audi S4 would be fun options.

The only guys I know who bought beaters drove 911's during 2-3 seasons of good weather in Canada. One had an older iX BMW and one drove a Camry with snow tires. Neither had an issue. I can remember one year the snow was so deep even with snow tires it was not manageable in a 3 Series. I drove back into my drive and parked the car, a 2000 323i, and worked from home.
