UAW And GM Reach Tentative Deal - White Collar Workers Worry If Management Sold Out Their Jobs
AW and General Motors negotiators finally struck a proposed agreement Wednesday morning in advance of Thursday's National GM Council meeting in Detroit.

Product allocation — commitments by GM to build vehicles in U.S. plants — was a final major hurdle, people close to the talks said, and it's a big one that matters to both hourly and salaried employees. The latter group was growing increasingly anxious what the company might promise the union to end a month-long national strike.

Seems to me any young person entering the job market for the first time should think hard and twice about working at an automobile manufacturer if other choices available. This industry is prime for major consolidation and downsizing over next twenty years.

It remains that working for the Government is the best place for most middle class workers - they get incredible benefits - paid time off for stubbed toes, Spousal maternity benefits - and incredible retirement pay as well.

Working for a manufacturing company - while nice in pay and benefits - you still have to do the job!
