CAR WARS! The Sports Car Battle YOU'VE Been Waiting For: The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Vs. The 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S
When it comes to sports cars, it's pretty hard to argue against the Porsche 911. Although the engine is in the wrong place and its footprint has grown in size over the years, its German engineering propels it beyond many others.

But, now there's the all-new, 2020 Chevrolet Corvette. And it is a monumental achievement with a mid-engine layout and nearly 500 horsepower in the base model. Oh, and it won't cost you six figures.

So, how does it shake out between both all-new models?

We've posted the rather short Motor Trend verdict below. To read the full story, click "Read Article," after the jump. I reassure you, this is worth the read.

Second Place: Porsche 911 Carrera S

The winningest model in Best Driver's Car history maintains its standing as the better sports car, but just barely. As a complete package, it's found wanting.

First Place: Chevrolet Corvette Z51

No excuses, no compromises. The long-awaited mid-engine Corvette isn't perfect, but it's damn sure close enough.

Not everything has to be a battle or war between a competing (?) product - but as a car enthusiast its awesome to be able to appreciate both the new Corvette and 911! Both are stunning in their own way.

Apparently you're not aware of how dirty the automotive space has been getting as every dollar and cent counts...

Why can't we all get along? Interesting review. Has anyone heard if 255s up front (on stock wheels), or 265s make a big difference in the handling? 20mm made a really noticeable difference on my e39 M5.

Huge achievement by Chevrolet. Now let's apply that effort to all GM vehicles.

Indeed.

This is what my thesis has been for some time now.

GM builds staggering performance vehicles. Now, if we could only get the same effort for things like the Malibu, Impala, Equinox, etc., GM would really be something...

It was interesting reading interviews with the engineering team and how they met their targets. Contrast this with the Cadillac XT6, arguably a more important vehicle in a hot segment. "Hey, let's put a Cady grill on a Chevy crossover and use the XT5 interior. Drivetrain, just use the same one we use in the Chevy."
This is why Cadillac will never be a top tier luxury brand. Which is a shame because they have the capability, not the will.

If GM were as serious about Cadillac as the Corvette team was with the C8...

Maybe it's time to put Corvette and Cadillac in one division separate from Chevrobuick.

Agree as they have upped Vette's game, especially the interior. The Vette's relation to the rest of the Chevy lineup is different than in the past. Makes more sense as a Cady.

Really great achievement by Chevy, but the car gets uglier everytime I see it. Whereas the 911 may be viewed as an aged design theme, its clean lines and classic look are still very impressive.

The Porsche 911 is like a polo shirt. Works for all occasions and will not go out of style.

The all-new Corvette, on the other hand, is like a piece of couture fashion. Here one day, gone the next and in 10 years we'll all be saying "What the hell was that?"

In red, the 'vette does look boy racer - in black, it will hide some of those creases and just be menacing.

The C8 really look short. It is going to be a chore to get in and out of it if you are over 25 years old.

Winner winner chicken dinner!

Good for GM to release the performance bargain of a lifetime at such a low ball price. Too bad GM didn't give just 50% of the effort into its other pathetic product lines and we may not be having this conversation.

GM and Ford don't have the panache and pedigree of the Eiurotrash brands but Murica CAN compete and WIN against the best. I won't be parking a sports car in my driveway anytime soon as it doesn't jive with my limited parking and large cargo hauling needs (SUV for me) but I appreciate the eye candy and the smile on the faces of the lucky bastards whom get to pilot these beasts.

No kidding GM needs a winner like this and certainly should look to remake their entire product line with a lot of scrutiny to make people want them, not just accept them. I imagine the Corvette is going to shake up a lot of sports car makers across the pond there. Between this car and the Tesla we are and will be making a huge impact in the evolution and price point of autos globally. USA USA USA.

Funny if you read some driving reviews the new C8 actually has worse forward visibility than a C7 or a McLaren or the 911. The dash is too high / seat too low and you lose 4ft of forward view. I did not expect to read that being it is a rear engined car. I guess there is a cost to making it 2" lower than the 2020 911.

I am laughing at how people keep thinking the C8 is selling at a 'bargain' price. After the necessary and dear options are added, the C8 will be going out the door in the mid $80's plus taxes/fees.

You do realize that C7 Corvettes are in that range too, right?

The 992 is awesome but when I spec one the way I like it is $150k + tax... It gets tempting just to spend more and get a Lamborghini or Ferrari instead.

I look forward to see higher spec versions of the C8.

Great for the Vette. People love the Porche's "timeless styling" but I've grown sick of the thing. It just looks like a VW Beetle that went to the gym. The Vette may look more extroverted but that's as much at the heart of what a Vette is supposed to be as the Porche's reserve.
