It Looks Like UAW Settled For Bonuses And Salary Increases Over Job Security - Is That Good Or Bad?
A proposed contract with General Motors that more than 46,000 UAW members are voting on this week contains lucrative bonuses and wage gains, but it doesn't bring any production from Mexico to the U.S. or save three plants that shut down this year.

The UAW's national strike against the automaker will extend at least through Friday, Oct. 25, as the tentative agreement GM reached last week with union leaders goes to the rank and file for ratification.

unions have no choice. they are a dying breed with 13% of the workplace and most of that dinosaurs like automakers and the government. not to mention corrupt leadership and public scorn

Good for GM and the workers. The company has to have the flexibility to increase and decrease it's workforce and the workers still got a pay raise and the healthcare remained largely the same. Now the Union can hopefully help those laid off as needed until things pick back up or they find another job.

Wasn't going to happen and both union leadership and GM knew it. Purely a negotiating strategy, make the members think you totally have their back and start high in your demands to GM knowing you will eventually settle for less. A kabuki dance.

Now, if GM management can make cars that people want to buy job security won't be an issue.
