As we noted on Friday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer wants to incentivize electric vehicle sales using a scrappage scheme in the mold of Cash For Clunkers. This is a well-intentioned plan and the goal of increasing EV adoption is a good one. It just ignores one serious problem: Cash For Clunkers sucked.

I seriously doubt Schumer has a clue to what the typical EV costs compared to a fossil fuel alternative.

This is a tax pure and simple.

The ONLY way that this isn't a tax would be if for every dollar allocated as welfare checks to help rich people to buy EVs that there was a commensurate cut in welfare spending to the freeloaders cranking out babies and shooting meth.

Of course its a tax but a necessary one if society is going to make the necessary switch to EV's. But in reality this will only happen of the Dems take back the senate and we get a Dem president. We can thank Donald Trump for pioneering the regular use of Executive orders. The floodgates are now open if a Dem gets in a president.
