FCA, GM And Toyota Take President Trump Administration's Side In Emissions Tug Of War — Are You Team California Or Team Trump?
In the latest emissions tug of war, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), General Motors and Toyota have announced that they have picked a side. And, that would be with the Trump administration.

Essentially, this splits the auto industry in half.

In one corner, you have BMW, Ford, Honda and Volkswagen. In the other: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), General Motors and Toyota.

To boil this down as simply as possible, basically FCA, GM and Toyota are agreeing with the Trump administration's move to lower the rather intense regulatory requirements implemented by the Obama administration. This would relax emission-focused regulations on a national level.

BMW, Ford, Honda and Volkswagen see things diferently, alongside California. That's because California wants stricter regulations and the four auto manufacturers believe that California is right in its pursuit of a greener future.

Having said that, we're left wondering: Are YOU Team California or Team Trump?

Breaking with some of their biggest rivals, General Motors, Fiat Chrysler and Toyota said Monday they were intervening on the side of the Trump administration in an escalating battle with California over fuel economy standards for automobiles.

Their decision pits them against leading competitors, including Honda and Ford, who this year reached a deal to follow California’s stricter rules. It represents the latest twist in one of the Trump administration’s most consequential rollbacks of regulations designed to fight climate change. It has also opened a rift among the world’s biggest automakers — the very industrial giants that the Trump administration maintains it was trying to help with regulatory relief...

Team Trump all the way. While I know his style can sometimes over the top, he is right on the substance 9 times out of 10. The Federal bodies have been on point for regulating energy standards since the 1970s, and while California has tried to do their own thing in the past, there is no law that states CA should have the right to establish standards that will affect the other 49 states. Federalism is about protecting smaller states from the impacts of decisions of larger states, and with CA being the largest state in the Union, a decision on fuel standards that force manufacturers to comply WOULD impact the other 49 states.

True leaders of large organizations are well thought out and choose their words carefully for effective communication. it is called leadership. Being brash only works if you inherit daddy's business.

Odd, when Obama negotiated a 50 state standard that all the automakers agreed with y'all bitched that he was impinging on states rights.

Don’t think Barry “negotiated” anything. Pathetic liberals and communist “progressives” are about controlling all you worms. You’re too stupid and we’re simply superior people. The Obutts and Clintstones were nothing before as ascending to the WH where they quickly started doing things they were not elected to do. Putting us all in EVs (so they can shut off the power) or “public transportation” (so they can control your movement or shut it down) is about control.

That said this “situation” falls under the interstate commerce clause so the Feds make the std. As Congress has abdicated it’s law making authority to gubment agencies the EPA makes rules but any President can reverse any rule or Executive Order (Daca) as they are not “law”.

So current administration wins... that said these stupid car companies can make their vehicles to any standard they choose...

Xjug, it's time to put your tin foil hat back on. DumbDonnie and the Fox propaganda machine just denigrated a decorated army officer (fox even called him a spy) for reporting his concerns about the Ukraine call he was in on as he is the WH Ukraine expert.

As Trump looks like he is going to get dumped (impeached) I would not worry too much about what the current administration wants or commands. Efficiency standards will continue to increase worldwide as the years go by. Going backwards is not the sign of a progressive future oriented society.

What has DumbDonnie accomplished? Everything he touches has failed. Casino, airline, steaks, etc. Oh, and 4 bankruptcies. Four!
All he did was inherit a fortune. Without that he would be the world's angriest insurance salesman.

He beat Hitlary Clintstone and that’s MORE than enough for me! Gotta love the pathetic hysterical commie libs... seems I recall them saying not respecting the outcome of 2016 was a threat to our democracy (they’re stupid idiots because we’re a Representative Republic).. look at their insanity on global display... cowards..

xjug, obviously you failed civics class (suprise!). We are also the world's oldest democracy. If you understood the constitution and obviously you do not (you are not alone, neither does DumbDonnie) we are a republic based on rule of law and 3 co-equal branches of government. DumbDonnie believes he was elected King and that he makes all the laws. Inviting Russia to hack our election, strong-arming Ukraine to investigate a political rival, it's all against our laws.
And before you whine about the process, it is the same process used to investigate the false Benghazi probe that was written by republicans.
Oh, and he handed the middle to Russia without so much as a whimper nor any planning, just a dumb-ass tweet. He has turned us into the laughing stock of the world.

Yep, your a trumper, nothing intelligent to say, so cue the name calling.
Obama brought us back from the brink of a depression and reduced the annual deficit by 60 percent.
Cadet Bone Spurs has increased the annual deficit by 60 percent, his average quarterly GDP is less than Obama's despite wild deficit spending, his average monthly new jobs is worse than Obama's second term average, he has greatly increased the trade deficit, lost our allies, surrendered to Putin. So, go ahead with your name calling because you have nothing else.
Oh, and Obama was a two term president, tRump may not even finish one. Sad.

Let's see:

(1) Poured money into welfare (more than the 5 next highest-spending states combined) and allowed its schools to be the bottom in the nation.

(2) Tax raped people with road taxes that have been diverted away from fixing the roads and put toward welfare.

(3) Taxing businesses--in various ways--to cripple them.

(4) The train to nowhere.

(5) Allowing the power grid to be unstable because...welfare.

(6) Allowing damns to be unsafe because...welfare.

(7) Being a massively large economy that is perpetually bankrupt because...welfare.

Not when rapes schools and infrastructure.

Not when it gives freebies to people who have not lifted a finger.

Not when it gives money to people who have broken international law and are here illegally.

Not when you have an economy that is as big as California but which is simultaneously nearly bankrupt because of unchecked welfare spending.

The day after Trump's re-election ICE will begin raiding California will a vengeance and the morons in Sacramento will get throat punched.

It"s unfortunate it is about politics and not practicality, science and reason. California has a unique climate that tends to trap pollution for extremely long periods of time. thus the need for different rules in California. If other states opt in fine. The rest of the world is adopting standards closer to what California is adopting so the standardization argument is kind of lame.

Actually - that is the point - european standards are closer to California than to the lower standards. Manufacturers can produce cars that meet both European and California standards at the same time - which is what many (Certainly the europeans) do now. and since those cars are better than the regular US standard - they save money producing a car that pollutes less.

Since few are going to actually produce to the lesser standard - the California Standard should be the one. In fact - the European Standard should be the one as well.

That's a great point, if manufacturers already have to build more fuel efficient options for Europe and China, it might be more expensive to have a special version for the US. Why not just use the global standard instead of doing our own thing.
