Tesla has been criticized in the past for having its owners essentially beta test ais dvanced semi-autonomous driving functions on public roads, and the exact same argument has been made for the recently-introduced ‘Smart Summon’ feature.

 

The function, rolled out officially in late September, allows owners to operate their Tesla through a smartphone as long as they are within a few hundred feet of it.

well that answers one of my myriad questions about this feature - whether the car would just make a beeline straight towards you in a parking lot, regardless of what obstacles might be between you, or if it could somehow navigate it's way around cars, parking blocks, a pond, unmarked "lanes" in the parking lot aisles, etc.

Tesla stock down 3 percent today based on 10-Q filing with SEC. Turns out the profit was based on one time accounting maneuvers.

I think the real story is how they still made $3.13 billion despite the fact that buying any other EV in the United States will get you an additional $6k rebate. Despite the $6k disadvantage, they still sold an insane number of cars for an EV-only company in the US. There is one more cliff in January where the federal rebate drops to $0 for Tesla. As other automakers lose their subsidies as well the market will no doubt benefit Tesla even more. They still outsold all other US EVs COMBINED in Q3.

And no license yet to build cars in China. Seems like that should have been a priority before building a factory there.
