SPIED! An All-new, Next-gen Ford SUV Is Spotted Testing In Europe — Do You Want A REAL SUV Or A Subaru-like Crossover?
We're really starting to see Ford's transition to a mostly sport-utility vehicle-based lineup taking form, Spies.

First was the 2020 Explorer. Then the 2020 Escape. The Expedition has some time on the clock before it gets an all-new variant. But, there's one vehicle that needs a solid replacement.

That would be the Fusion, otherwise known abroad as the Mondeo.

In my humble opinion, the Fusion is one of Ford's best products. It had plenty of room, got great fuel economy and it possessed an excellent ride. Replacing it will be a tough task.

The Ford team is getting to work and the very first spy shots of an early mule have hit the web. Featuring a mash up of parts, it really is an interesting looking thing. Riding high and sporting the body of a wagon, it seems like Ford may be producing something along the lines of a high-riding crossover (THINK: Subaru Forester).

But that got me thinking: IF you were shopping for an SUV in this segment, would you prefer a crossover or a proper SUV?

Given that Ford will already have the Escape and Explorer on offer and priced in close proximity, perhaps it needs a third option that's more car-like. What say you, Spies?

Ford of Europe is preparing to replace the Mondeo, S-Max and Galaxy with a single crossover-style estate model, and our spy photographers have caught what appears to be a camouflaged prototype.

The new vehicle, the name of which is not yet confrmed, will mark Ford’s exit from both the classic large hatchback market and the MPV sector. Although there’s no news on a definitive launch date, the car is expected to arrive in early 2021...

This made news more than a week ago elsewhere. Ford has said in the past that the Fusion would likely come back as an Outback competitor. What I find interesting is that Ford stopped the CD4/5 platform from moving forward in favor of the much larger CD6 and Focus platforms. What is also curious is that they could have already done a raised Fusion wagon.

Could this just be one product in a broader offering, like the Audi Cross-trek?

That thing looks horrible. What would have been so wrong with a simple sloping roofline rather than that goofy kink.
