New Trade Deal Could Give The White House Influence On Where Vehicles Are Made
The Trump administration wants to dictate how and where global auto companies make cars and parts to secure duty-free treatment under the new NAFTA -- in its most direct intervention yet to manage trade and production, people familiar with the effort told Bloomberg.

The issue is being discussed between Trump administration officials, congressional staff, and domestic and foreign auto makers in the context of the legislation that lawmakers will vote on for the trade deal to take effect. The White House wants specific language that would allow it to unilaterally administer the production rules for companies.

And how is that working 80ho? Trade deficit is soaring to a record under tRump. And republican presidents have been very involved in crafting current trade agreements. They do it carefully, with thought and analysis, not just an impulsive tweet.

14 more months tops. The senate republicans lack the principles of their predecessors in the Nixon era. No balls. I don't care what the fascist controlled senate does. They will all be out in 2020 and a new administration with a Congress that believes in the constitution will set about undoing all the damage of this lawless administration.

In a 3-way trade deal like NAFTA II, nobody gets to decide anything unilaterally that impacts the whole group. That is the whole point of making a free trade zone. The three nations agreed on content rules for cars etc. Not sure what all the fuss is about right now. Just get it passed.

The USA is the only country that matters in NAFTA. Mexico and Canada are those who kneel.

Manufacturing will continue to go where the Companies can make the most money. That is the purpose of a Company - provide the best return for its stockholders - and THEIR pressure is far more important than that of the Government

Unless the US government places a US Content requirement on ALL cars - which I doubt would stand up in court - Manufacturing will continue to follow out to the cheapest labor countries that can provide acceptable product.

Let the free market sort it out. If consumers really wanted a high US made content the manufacturers would promote this. It is not high on a shopping priority.

Republicans (until this administration)have always stood for free trade and let the market work itself out. Isolationism that the Trump administration is pushing will not work. Manufacturing is already starting to wane in this country due to tariffs. If that migrates over to other sectors of the economy a recession(which is now overdue)will simply come on a lot stronger.
