Tesla Model S ‘Raven’ Pitted Against Porsche Taycan Turbo S - Who Comes Out On Top THIS Time?
We previously reported on a direct comparison between the Tesla Model S and the new Porsche Taycan, but the review had its issues.

Now a Tesla Model S ‘Raven’ vs Porsche Taycan Turbo S gives a fairer look at the two top-of-the-line electric sedans and it concludes both are great cars.

I gotta say the Taycan is impressive but I just don’t feel it’s worth the $85-100k premium over the model S. It’s slightly faster in a straight line and more performance oriented yet less practical interior space wise/cargo area and has less range...

A great effort from Porsche but I think overall the Tesla represents the better value for dollar.

And if I’m completely honest if handling/driving dynamics/performance were my requirements...I’d ditch both and go with a 911

An R 63 AMG....YES PLEASE!

I don't know if the Taycan is faster in a straight line. 2.67 second 0-60 seems suspect. You should be able to mash 2.5 seconds all day as an amateur driver and most vboxes have been 2.28 to 2.4 seconds. Somethings off, perhaps launch control or Ludicrous+ wasn't turned on.

Based on the range they stated, this also is not a new (Raven) Model S Performance. That + a 5% power boost should make it a clear win for the S in straight line acceleration.

But, again the Porsche won. Stop making excuses.

Yeah, this run was gamed for sure. We'll see the real results soon.

The more range argument is BS and one tesla has over-relied on. Porsche has a much more effective battery and motor cooling system. For aggressive driving it is important that the car can accelerate more than once. This is why the Porsche will always win on a long challenging test like the 'Ring. It is also safer and far less likely to catch fire.
Also, Porsche could have added more range, but this would have added more weight and impacted performance. Plus for Europe the range is more than acceptable and the fast charging system VW group is installing will soon outpace tesla's, negating that advantage.

While I agree with much of that, you have to give Tesla credit for their high efficiency batteries and motors. The Taycan has a 93 kW battery, while the Tesla S comes with 100 kW. With that additional 7 kW, they can travel a significantly further than the additional battery capacity would indicate, almost 50% more than the Taycan.

It's more than the batteries.

Taycan 4S is selling for $104k...hard to believe many would chose the aging Telsa over the 4S.

The only issue there is at that price point not only does the Model S offer better acceleration, but the E 63, M5, RS6
Start to make a case with superior performance/practicality to the Taycan 4S

The 4S has less range, performance, no ceramic brakes, and a lot of features/luxury items that are shown in the videos are not included. Plus, when is the base price ever the real cost of a Porsche. You can get a Model S Performance and check 0 boxes and it is still a great car that comes with everything you see in the video. Your only options on the S are exterior color, seat/trim color, wheels, and autopilot. If you're good with a white car with black interior and basic autopilot, the base price is all you need.

The only arguement you can make for the Model S us slightly faster acceleration, which comes with lower range once you accelerate more than once, fire risk, etc. The Poesche is far better built, has a true luxury interior, handles like a Porsche, is supported by a fantastic dealer network, etc.
But, yea, keep talking about 0-60 acceleration as though that is the only reason to buy a car.

That and u can fit y’all ppl in the back which being 6’4 and having tall friends/fam is important along with the fact that it will save me $85-100k over the Model S and actually has a cargo area comparable to the size of a Mercedes E Class wagon as opposed to the Taycan’s VW Golf sizer cargo lol....but yea...just acceleration ....LMAO

That simply is untrue, you can launch the S over and over and over again and it will still be faster than the 4S. The fire risk is overstated and safety data on the Taycan hasn't been released yet.

Again-What do you get with a Porsche that you don't get with a Tesla.
1)Build quality
2)Dealership access
3)Better fast charging
4)A normal brake pedal
5)With Electrify America the potential for even more charging infrastructure then Tesla as they will be sharing with VW,Ford Kia, Hyundai Etc.

The price difference can now be mitigated by the fact the Porsche is now going to offer the Taycan S at $102K(not far off a Tesla at this point). So even if Tesla came out on top in the acceleration race who gives a shit.

1)Build quality -- Perhaps

2)Dealership access -- Not a benefit, I would rather walk into a Tesla store or service center without people constantly trying to sell me something

3)Better fast charging -- Nope, The Model S can charge more miles per hour than the Taycan despite charging at 250 kW versus 275 kW. The S is 30% more efficient despite being both larger and faster than the Taycan, it charges at the same mileage rate as a Taycan at 360 kW.

4)A normal brake pedal -- The S has a setting for the brake to work exactly like a Taycan, which is stupid since it reduces range, reaction time, and convenience.

5)With Electrify America the potential for even more charging infrastructure then Tesla as they will be sharing with VW,Ford Kia, Hyundai Etc. -- Guess what, the Tesla can charge at any Electrify America station while no Porsche can use the Tesla Supercharger Network. Tesla is the only brand that can use any charging station in the US.
