Trump Administration To Require Modest Increase In Fuel Economy Figures

The Trump administration is planning to require automakers to modestly bolster fuel economy and pare tailpipe emissions after 2020, a reversal from its earlier proposal to freeze rules through 2026.

Administration officials have tentatively agreed to the change, according to a person familiar with the matter who asked for anonymity because the deliberations are private.

Imagine that. I wonder how close this new WH fuel economy target will be the the less aggressive target that VW, Ford, et all agreed to along with California and a bunch of other US states. If it isn't much they should just agree to a slightly tougher California target and be done with it.

40 mpg average overall would be a good target requirement. With gas at about $3 a gallon in most places (except wacky liberal California), 40 mpg would help greatly to offset high fuel prices.
