Hollywood Elite Rejoice As Mercedes Announces An Electric G-Wagon Is On The Way

As if getting a true all-new model in nearly four decades wasn’t enough, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is now entering the realm of electrification.

This is not a rumor, but an actual confirmation that came from none other than Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius, who was quoted by the company’s chief of Digital Transformation, Sascha Pallenberg, in a short Tweet.

This just sums up the state of America in 2019.

This also completely confirms the positioning of EV's as "fashion statements" and status accessories.

The electric G-Wagon is basically to cars what 'Hermes Birken Bags' are to handbags.

I guess this means the G-Wagon was designed to be a BEV from the start? Either way they need to be careful with this model. Clients will want a G-Wagon with that is electrified and maybe as E logo on the rear door. No other changes to the model. You can change propulsion, but don't mess with the DNA of the design.

Mercedes has decided to use EQ to denote their electric models, so EQG. An Austrian outfit called Kreisel has been electrifying all kinds of vehicles, one of them is the G-wagon, so MB is a bit behind:

To answer the obvious, no old cars was designed to be a BEV. Any new car brought to market in the last year is part of a long term product plan. So yes someone at MB decided that the new G-Wagon would go BEV at some point. They didn't wake up yesterday and make this decision. Being a G-Wagon is so heavy, I wonder what kind of range they can get out of the new model when it debuts.

Arnie is going to succumb to throat cancer from those El Stinko cigars he constantly is chomping on.

Somehow the overpriced G keeps on selling, this is one upgrade that actually makes sense. Given the funky proportions and astronomical budget, you can fit a massive battery and multiple motors in the car. If MB does they smart thing, they'll make this a flagship EV with 400 miles of range and excellent performance.
