2021 Range Rover Puts Luxury Ahead Of Function - Is That Such A Bad Idea?

Land Rover will launch an all-new Range Rover Crossover in 2021. It will be based on the same MLA underpinnings as its forthcoming, full-sized fifth-generation sibling and will be offered with a choice of all-electric, plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid powertrains.

Officially, Land Rover is remaining tight-lipped on the model, but we understand that the new Range Rover Crossover will be built at JLR’s Castle Bromwich facility. Our exclusive image shows it will be the lowest and sleekest SUV the firm has ever produced, with a swept-back roofline, a steeply raked windscreen and slender LED headlamps.

Getting spotty quality corrected is job #1 at Range Rover. If they don't improve quality it doesn't matter what direction it takes, especially going upmarket.

Too much product overlap. They should make a 3-row Range Rover Ultimate instead.

It's funny that people always mention build quality. Here in LA/Beverly Hills there are a million Range Rovers. I can't imagine so many would continue to be sold if quality was that bad. There are many other options on the market including Cayenne and Bentayga.

Check the JD Power quality ratings. Six other luxury SUV brands ranked higher than Range Rover in quality and reliability. For example, Range Rover ranks 68 out of 100, Cayenne 79 out of 100 and Lincoln Navigator 82 out of 100.

High end cars are problematic - often because they have the newest technology - and spend time in service for that reason. Rich people buy problematic cars - because they generally have other options in their garage when one is in the shop. So - they may not even know that these cars spend time in service. Since most of these cars are leased, while they are under warranty, the people who initially buy them no longer have them when they really become money pits.

People in Bev Hills have a dozen cars. If one doesn't start they text a minion to deal with it and they drive something else.

the brand has expressed a desire to build stately-sedan-like CUVs in the past. this is a good time for them to toss out some revised concepts.

Oh boy, an electrified Range Rover. They can't even get their wonky multi-information display to work correctly lol. Now they want to make an electric version? Will they be covering the house fires that result?

This appears to be a growing trend in Europe to introduce new CUVs that are really just tall station wagons, sorry, estate.

Blimey! Everyone wants to be stranded on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck while sitting in a luxurious British Rover that fails to proceed.
