Ford Mustand Mach-E Vs Tesla Model Y - Which Would You Choose?

Ford has been positioning its Mustang Mach-E, its first next-gen all-electric vehicle, against the Tesla Model Y electric crossover.

Now that the specs of the Mach-E have leaked, we can make a quick specs comparison with the Model Y.

Last year, Ford said that it was going “all-in” on EVs following the ousting of CEO Mark Fields and appointment of Jim Hackett.

Still the Model Y for software, autopilot, and supercharging. If the Mach E was $10k less I might actually consider it.

Y probably is a bit faster as well, especially with the latest software updates ??

Quit using "probably" to comment the model why is faster. Have you driven either?
And according to other sources they are priced pretty much the same. Tesla autopilot is over rated and behind others in capabilities.

Based on the numbers released so far, the Y is faster. I haven't driven either, but I hope to.

Autopilot is underrated if anything, no other system is as advanced right now in a car you can actually buy. It's still the only system that can do lane changes, freeway interchanges, or summons.

Several independent sources say GM's system is superior. The only people who seem to rate Tesla's system are Tesla employees.

GMs system isn't even close in overall capabilities, the only benefit over Autopilot is that you don't have to keep your hands on the wheel. You can't do autonomous lane changes, freeway-to-freeway navigation, summon, etc.

Model Y (if I had to chose). Mach E price is basically the same including tax credit. Looks to have less space/cargo capacity.

The Mach E will have the full $7500 federal rebate. The Model W will have zero. Advantage, Ford.

Even though I detest the fact that they attached the Mustang name to it, the Mach E looks way better.

Mach E looks nicer, but all the problems Ford had had recently with quality issues on new launches is troubling considering this is their first EV.

The Mache E is simply less ugly so it wins by default.

The Ford Mach E looks like a car to drive. The Tesla looks like a boring nebulous taxi cab.

Hands down I'll take the better quality that a Ford has over a Tesla.

Wonder who engineered the power train?
Did they just copy Tesla or source from them or from VW.

The Mach E was under development too long ago for this to be a VW cut and paste.

"Just copy Tesla.."?!? Are you serious?GM had a concept in 2002 that had a layout almost identical to Tesla. Will you admit Tesla copied GM?

Ford cannot afford the cost of an additional platform, especially a low volume one that losses money. They did want an EV partnership with VW.

Mach-E.

The initial specs are good. I dont have outrageous expectations. It's coming to us after Tesla has shown us that this type of vehicle can be made & has a healthy consumer demand.

But note - Teslas weren't seriously considered by consumers until they showed the extreme top-end performance capabilities. overall int/ext design has been largely ignored - bc Tesla is still a baby-brand & has no legacy design characteristics. all the major automakers have had to worry about performance & styling design - something that their core customers will accept & be proud for.

Audi, GM, M-B, Nissan have made great EV's. All of their products have covered a wide range of performance & styling options to meet a broad range of consumer expectations. Ford has carefully "hung back" to offer something that consumers will honestly gravitate to.

Model Y. Its looks are cleaner and more progressive. The Mach-E looks dated already and the "vintage" Mustang taillights don't help - they actually scream "gimmicky" to me. Neither interior looks that great and I hate the huge screens in both, so that's a draw. Performance and range seem to be a draw as well.

It just a Golf hatchback! mIt the same size physically as the Bolt and the Leaf BEVs.
