47% Of Shoppers Don't Approve Of The Mustang Name On An EV SUV
A survey of current car shoppers has found that Ford is right to explain the thought process behind naming its new electric crossover the Mustang Mach-E, as the moniker has an approval rating that'd send any decent politician into hiding.Autolist questioned approximately 1,000 members of the general public shopping for new vehicles and found that 47 percent disapprove of using the Mustang nameplate on an electric crossover. Only 19 percent supported Ford's choice to call the Mach-E a Mustang, and 34 percent assigned themselves to neither camp.

100% of shoppers did not approve of the Cayenne either.

yeah, but Porsche didn't name their initial SUV, the "Porsche 911 Cayenne S/Turbo"....

naming this beautifully executed EV the "Mach-E" would have been enough. Adding the "Mustang" did garner a huge amount of attention, but it's the wrong kind of attention - its a distraction from the overall product whose exterior was definitely inspired by the iconic pony car.

Whether you like it or not from a branding standpoint, in the long run I think this will be a good thing. Being a longtime Mustang enthusiast (Not a C&C type, though..LOL)-having owned five over the years, I do not like the MM-E or would ever think of having one in my garage. Real Mustangs make sweet sounds when you key them up.

Its a brilliant move, possibly a Hail Mary on Ford's part. Why come up with a new product and spend tons of $$ and all that goes along with it to establish a vehicle and name plate. How many people are talking about this vehicle NOW before its even out with not a whole lotta cash spent to market it yet. The styling is Mustang-esque and not altogether like all the other jelly bean look SUV's...

If there was ever a reason to create the Corvette brand SUV Ford has doubled down on Porsche and Bentley, Rolls, Lamborghini, and now Aston Martin. GM (is a pathetically stupid and cheap @$$ company) needs get the Vette SUV on the market ASAP. Its time... once again everyone else has lead and GM is behind the curve.

Agree this was a good move from a name and brand equity standpoint. It will be even better overseas with the Mustang cache.

They diluted the classic Mustang name.

At least they did not call it the Bullit-E. Real heritage is so rare these days. Ford should have kept the Mach model name for a future Mustang special edition model.

What's next, a Mustang EV pickup or wagon.

Ford has several times seriously pondered a 4 door Mustang as well as a Mustang wagon.

I would be in line for a 4 Door mustang coupe. Keep the fundamentals. Power, performance, and value. As much as I want another 2 door Mustang in the garage, a family of 5 requires a bit more room.

Saw it in the metal today.

Looks great! I think it's easily one of the best looking CUV's out there at any price.

At first I wasn't sure about calling it a Mustang but now I'm pretty sure it was a brilliant move.

It works!
Ford wanted to stand out from the clutter and gain attention... It worked!

Everyone is talking about this Mustang Mach-E... Free publicity just like Tesla gets and Ford will easily sell 50,000 the first year and make profit!!! Something Tesla dreams about besides selling EV credits for million$.

Meanwhile GM is.... Asleep as usual.
