TRUCK WARS! IF The Rivian And Cybertruck Went On Sale TODAY, Which Would YOU Choose?
Well, things just got even more interesting, Spies. It looks like it's going to be one competitive field when electric pick-up trucks hit the market.

A Ford-150 in electric form will be coming. Rivian's R1T will be shipping. Bollinger's EV is available. And then there's Tesla's Cybertruck.

As you're all well aware, we like to find out which is the very best auto in head-to-head type of situations. Over the past 12 months, it's hard to argue that Rivian's R1T was not one of the frontrunners in the conversation.

Known for its quirky design and minimalist interior, it's a more traditional take on the pick-up truck. It's said to deliver 400+ miles on a full charge, have a zero to 60 in the range of 3.0-4.9 seconds and tow 11,000 pounds. It'll cost $69,000* before incentives.

Last night we saw the reveal of the Cybertruck, which has a design that speaks for itself. Zero to 60 will happen between 6.5 and 2.9 seconds, it will get between 250-500 miles on a charge and tow between 7,500-14,000 pounds. Pricing will start between $39,900* and scales up to $69,900* before incentives.

*Prices do NOT include title, taxes and fees.

Given what we know at this stage, WHICH would you be buying if BOTH were on sale today and you were in the market? WHICH would you choose, Spies?

Cybertruck design is insanely ugly.

I frickin love it, but it's obviously not for everyone. You gotta give them some credit for doing something way different and potentially innovative.

Of course you love it. You're under under contract to kneel and bob Elon.

Not paid to love it at all, as Elon mentioned on twitter, they paid nothing for marketing or advertising, 180k+ orders. I frickin love the whole concept behind the company and challenging the status quo. Nothing like rooting for the underdog, but I'll have a real conundrum when they're no longer the underdog or if they stop innovating and get lazy (like Apple).

initially, i was thinking Tesla had missed the "mark" with the Cybertruck. However, it seems they purposely built it to appeal to certain types of consumers.

The Cybertruck should be attractive to consumers who don't necessarily need a truck. It's a "lifestyle" type of vehicle. Offers the perception of utility but isn't totally useful as a utility vehicle in that sense. It has muscle, it can tow, it could have the typical "spartan" interior similar to the Model X. Which is what the typical Tesla owner wants. I would expect some changes to the tire/wheel options to include more choices for street/on-road driving.

Today's pickup truck market leaders offer hundreds of possible configurations for both interior & exterior content/features but their top trim models are as tech-filled as luxury SUV's of similar sizes. Pricing beware.

Based on utility and value alone, the Cybertruck.

For $69k on the Rivian you'll get 230 miles of range and a 0-60 in the 4-5 second range. For $69k the Cybertruck will offer 500+ miles of range (!!!), a 0-60 in 2.9 seconds (!!!), seating for 6, more storage space, faster charging, greater ground clearance, better towing capabilities, stainless steel body, Autopilot, etc. etc. etc.

LOL, that's awesome!

It comes with basic Autopilot free like the current Teslas. The $7k is for Full Self Driving ;)

I thought the Model S in 2013 was a conversation starter, love it or hate it this will turn heads like literally no other car when it hits the streets.

Actually, the lane keeping is free and is still better than the feature on any other brand. The FSD option lets you put a destination in the navigation and it will do 100% of the highway driving for you--something that, um, zero non-Tesla cars can do today.

Rivian over the UglyTruck any day. The UglyTruck won't tow squat since it has tall side bed rails, so it's limited only to travel trailers. It'll never be able to tow a far more stable fifth wheel.

And good luck replacing that humungous windshield in the UglyTruck when the glass breaks.

It towed an F150 uphill while it was flooring it in the opposite direction, it will tow just fine.

For me, the Rivian.

I did see that Tesla received something like 200k orders for their truck last night so it will sell.

Apparently they thought about this. Motortrend has a bunch of videos, it looks like they got a sneak peak of the truck. There will be a new type of supercharger specifically for trucks with trailers.

Towing a F150 uphill is meaningless. A good part of that has to do with the grippiness of the tires.

How are you going to recharge the UglyTruck when towing a trailer? You gonna disconnect the trailer, pull up to the supercharger, charge, and then rehitch? That's a major PITA.

And I guarantee my F450 would outpull that UglyTruck any day of the week.

I think they might create their own trailer, perhaps with extra battery. There is also a solar panel accessory that adds 15 miles per day. 515 miles is a crapton, even towing something. The truck will also charge faster than 250kW and the plug is on the side, perhaps there is a way to do it without taking out the trailer.

Just saw a motortrend video with tons more details. Tesla is coming out with another Supercharger specifically for trucks with trailers. No rehitching needed.
