In The WEIRD World Of Hollywood And The Glitterati, Will The Tesla Cybertruck Become The Modern Day Defender?
If there's one thing we know that's a fact, it's that Hollywood and its glitterati are weird. Thus the nickname, Hollyweird.

And whether you're on the east or west coast, we've noticed something. Where the big money is, there's always something nearby. That would be the Land Rover Defender. Just take a trip to Nantucket where we're pretty sure it's policy for every inhabitant to own at least one — kidding. In addition to that specific vehicle, there's also rough and tumble oddities but if you're going out east to the Hamptons, be prepared to see a ton of vintage Defender 90s and Defender 110s.

It's the "it" vehicle.

While there's no question the Tesla Cybertruck is a polarizing design, it does do a couple things: 1) Make an impression, and 2) Establish a no nonsense presence. This is inline with the Defender — no, not the all-new Defender.

Having said that, while there's clearly much to work out with the Cybertruck, we're left wondering: Could it become the next "it" vehicle?

Just THINK of the emerging markets who are probably salivating over it as we type (e.g., the Middle East and Russia come to mind).

What say you, Spies?

No, it will be come the most infamous boondoggle in the history of Tesla. I was going to say "kill the UglyTruck with fire", but being as it's a Tesla, they tend to do that by themselves anyway.

I highly doubt they will come to market with this napkin sketch of a truck design. Expect the real one to debut at some point in the future. And nobody is going to trade their G-Wagon or Range Rover in for pickup truck.

The G-wagon or range rover are not pickups. Of course, neither is the monstrosity. Ford is not worried as many of their buyers actually use trucks for work and this thing will not work. It is a toy.

Just what the world needs: an electrified Pontiac Aztek.

Ford got the job done admirably right and Tesla got it so horrifically wrong. Musk created a vehicle that created dissension in the ranks of the Tesla pinheads. They would have been better off to have displayed the prosaic Model Y as their big announcement.

From Model Why to the new Model WTF.
Also, Ford stock price went up after the tesla unveiling.

I live in LA. It's all about how much money you can spend on a car. People don't want to be seen in a vehicle that starts at $40k. I see Cullinans all day every day. Plus tons of Bentaygas, Range Rovers, Uruses, G-wagon AMGs, etc.

SoCal is another planet when it comes to autos.

You're right.

Now I know two people that I could never see in a truck order one and even I'm thinking about it. I think it will definitely be the "it" car for a while. I imagine crowds of people checking these out in parking lots, great if attention is something you want (cough, LA). It happened with the S and X, not so much with the 3. This might be the best branding/marketing tool Tesla could have ever come up with.

While Interesting as a "prototype" - this vehicle is going to need a lot of changing to bring it to the public. That fastback roof sure looks too low for any rear headroom - among other things.

It's definitely a running concept. That's for sure.

So, I thought the roofline was crazy at first but after really looking at numerous photos, it's actually a visual trick.

The roof rises so high that the rear seat's headroom is A OK. The front windows are quite large.

If this really does hit the streets and sells...design studios will be jumping all over how they need to make their stuff even uglier.

Agreed.

Hell, we might see an uptick now that it simply exists...

Or if you want to own the fastest, strongest, or longest distance EV truck.

Side note that more people have now reserved the truck than the entire population of Hollywood.
