The Line Starts Here: Bentley Working On Ultra Exclusive Open-Cockpit Sports Tourer

Bentley is readying an ultra-exclusive model created by its coachbuilding division, Mulliner, and described by insiders as the “ultimate open-cockpit sports tourer”.

The model is expected to cost upwards of £1.5 million and will take cues from the EXP 100 GT concept, revealed in July for Bentley’s centenary. As well as echoing the concept’s exterior design, it is likely to use innovative and sustainable materials showcased by the EXP 100 GT – for example, the 5500-year-old naturally felled riverwood.

Big fan of Bentley, but this trend of creating roofless sports cars with cut down windscreens and charging millions for a super impractical car is getting a bit old.

A 1 to 25 unit run of a V16 model or something with 1,000hp or a recreation of a Blower Bentley or an homage thing would be more in keeping with the brand. There is a fine line between desirable and special and just goofy.

There are now over 2,000 billionaires worldwide looking for items that set them further apart from the herd. While at times it can be socially scurrilous its profitable business for auto companies struggling to increase margins and cash flow. Multiple limited editions abound for the rich and extremely limited ultra expensive versions like this for the uber rich.

I hear they have 200,000 orders at $100 a pop. Now that's impressive.

@FAQMD Doesn't matter. If you're in a Bentley convertible you don't care about pulling an F150 LOL

I laugh at the thought of some elitist yokel sitting in his "Ultra Exclusive Open-Cockpit Sports Tourer" at a light when some jerk slams at speed into the rear or front of his formally exclusive Bentley with a 25 year old uninsured two ton jalopy. Result? Two destroyed, wrecked piles of wasted iron and sheetmetal destined for the scrap heap.
