WHICH Version Would YOU Most Likely Buy Of The Mustang Mach-E? An EV? Gas Version? Hybrid?
Probably one of the most impressive reveals in recent memory from Ford, the Mustang Mach-E is, in our eyes, a big deal. That's because it squares up directly with the upcoming Tesla Model Y.

While some folks are still trying to come to grip with the use of the Mustang nameplate, we love it. To us it was a necessary business decision as Ford aims to do hand-to-hand combat with Tesla.

Although my previous thread just disclosed that the Mustang Mach-E First Edition is sold out for the U.S. market, we started thinking about something else. What if the Mustang Mach-E was offered in other forms. Would YOU want one of the other variants.

IF you had a choice between a fully electric Mustang Mach-E, a gasoline-powered variant and a hybrid Mach-E, WHICH would you put in your driveway?

Will never buy a car with a gas engine again, ever.

Will drive visceral exciting internal combustion powered cars as long as possible. Not interested in driving any damn EV golf cart.

No more gas stations, oil changes, or throttle lag... love it. Even if Tesla didn't exist I wouldn't go back to ICE.

Because "life happens" I think most would be better off with the hybrid. Not everyone lives near a charging station. Having a motor on board gives you that piece of mind and a backup should you ever run low on battery power.

Why is this post here? Ford is only selling it as an EV.

Ford clearly decided that a gas powered Ford Focus rebadged as a Mustang SUV would be a disaster, so they did the smart thing and launched a powerful EV Mustang SUV. I'm excited and have a placed my pre-order deposit.

There you have it. People don't need another Escape either. Ford would not beat Toyota with a hybrid, they've tried that already, several times. What Ford needed was an appealing electric so that they can keep selling fossils in Europe, at least for another few years. They also needed an answer to the upcoming Model Y and VW Id.Crozz-over.

The ID.Crapp will in NO WAY be anything other than a footnote. VW is incapable of greatness.

True. Why waste time thinking about it. It is EV only.

I was one of the first to move to Hybrids for our company fleet - and it saved a lot of gas money. ANd I admit these cars were really horrible to drive.'

But until we have Hundreds of thousands of Charging stations - the EV cannot replace the ICE vehicle completely. IT will be decades before we have the power generation capability to support more than 10% of vehicles as EVs.

I already probably have the last cars I will buy - although I will replace my Mini-Van now.

Anyone who's driven electric knows the answer.

Yes. And the answer is that they are not yet ready to be full replacements for ICE cars.

I think ~95% of EV owners would strongly disagree with that statement. Have a friend that moved to the middle of nowhere with a Leaf (125 miles of range) and had to give it up since she lives in an apartment and there are no easy charging options around. The Leaf is also crap with cold weather. Ironically a Tesla Supercharger is a mile away. She misses the Leaf and plans to save up for a Model Y as her next car.

Once you go electric, you often don't go back.

And you're paid to say that.

And you're so biased it's ridiculous.

You are not capable of even-handed examination of the issue.

EVs are NOT full replacements to ICE. (1) The comparable ICE car is up to 50% less expensive. (2) An EV cannot be recharged as fast as an ICE car be filled up. The sweet spot is still years away.

Paying $50K for a Model 3 does not make it the equivalent of a 3 Series because it's still as bargain basement as a Chevy Rentabu in its execution.

Contrary to what SJD says, the hardcore EV consumers buy (or lease) Nissan Leaf's or Chevy Bolts or other >$35,000 EV's.

Those are the die-hard EV fans - who don't have a lot of money but who really want an electric vehicle. [Oh, lots of governmental bodies purchase Leafs and Bolts for their municipal fleets so their snowflake voters can feel good about themselves.]

People who can do any Tesla product (mostly >$55,000 out the door), the Jaguar EV (not too many of those), and likely the Taycan, are buying a performance EV for the novelty of it - it is likely a second, third, or fourth car.

For the lady in the Leaf that SJD refers too...she is on a budget and is getting screwed by the true inconvenience of an EV.

For the most part, EV's are a luxury/prestige product, plain and simple. [And that is despite the Model 3 having an interior that would put a Mitsubishi to shame].

There is no 4 door midsize ICE for $20k you're going to get with the performance of a Model 3, feature set, or maintenance needs (lack thereof I should say). Zero, even at $30k or $35k you won't find that in an ICE car.

At this point I don’t want the expense, range anxiety and the inconvenience of an EV. I don’t need to race and beat others to the next stoplight, or wait in line to charge my car while on a highway trip.

I know of at least 2 people who have switched back to ICEs. The hardcore EV fans are like a cult. The inconvenience, poor quality, etc do not matter to them because they feel they belong to something and it makes them feel smug.

Out of at least 50 EV owners I know, there was just 1. Many are now getting their second EV and saying goodbye to all their ICE cars. The dominoes will fall for ICE, it's starting to happen.
