IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED: Are You Falling For The All-new Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 S On Monoblocks?

IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED: Are You Falling For The All-new Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 S On Monoblocks?
Back in the 1990s and early 2000s, Mercedes-Benz wasn't exactly known for its sporty division, AMG. That's because it wasn't nearly as embraced as it is today.

Now just about every single model has an AMG counterpart. Performance has taken over the three-pointed star.

In the 90s and early 00s though, a specific style of wheel was popular on the souped up Benzes. That would be the monoblock wheel, which could be found on the C, E, S, SL, CL and other models. Like all things in fashion, it eventually gets replaced.

Until now. The monoblock wheel is back. Although initially reappearing on the AMG GT63 S, it's now found a new home on the all-new GLS 63 S.

So, what do YOU think?

I don't get the interior design with MB. The flat screen is clean and simple and designed to be integrated and austere. Then the rest of the interior is about as busy as you can get. Everything is outlined and emphasized even the steering wheel. Way too busy to look at it. A bit of a contradiction imo.

I respect your opinion, but I respectfully disagree. There is nothing busy about the MB interiors. Maybe the seat surfaces in this example, but this is the 63 AMG model, which is always going to be more expressive. Much less busy than BMW interiors and less shiny stuff than Audis.

Clearly you've not looked at the pictures.

The LCD panel looks so tacked on. Almost like the real dash with gauges is hiding behind it. I'd pay extra for that. If you need a family wagon or something that can haul great. But it's a huge SUV. And AMG version is a bit much. GLS times around the Ring are not of interest.

Actually - that is NOT what happened

What we know - they actually told us - is that they did extensive owner studies - and the OWNERS wanted more Luxury. So they separated the lines into Luxury and Sport groups and it resulted in - at the time - a big increase in sales.

Exactly, Benz willing to listen to their OWNERS, the ppl who can ACTUALLY AFFORD their vehicles, not auto journalist, bloggers, or commenters on a blog is what propelled them to their #1 position globally

Well that and China which has Benz/Maybach fever right now

Much nicer than a Range Rover IMO. The wheels looks like a cross between the AMG monoblocks and the old style Lorinsers.

Wheels? Meh!

What I am really not loving is what a blob-like turd the GLS has become. The GLE is acceptable-looking but the GLS looks like a cross between a Honda Pilot and a Hyundai - its so plain and drab.

The Hammers are cool... but I’m so tired of the black rims. They were kinda cool back in the day before soccer moms and poser Wall Street types got them. Now they’re more cliche than anything.
