Polestar 2 Prototype Production Begins - Who Should Be Looking Over Their Shoulder?
For years, Tesla had it easy in its segment, with few noteworthy competitors. That was possible because the giants of the industry were undecided as to which way the wind is blowing, and the gazillion startups that popped up like mushrooms were all talk and no action.

But from 2020, that will change. The big boys are coming out to play, and they’ll be making good cars in great numbers. Backed by decades of experience, they’ll most than surely put a big dent in Tesla’s hopes of dominating the market.

Probably no one at this point. Polestar is still a no-name brand and they are not bringing anything to the table that will stand out versus the current lineup in this segment.

Also from the article: "For years, Tesla had it easy in its segment" ... To be a startup and enter a brand new market where no one has been successful in 100 years, and do it with an new type of car that few people alive are familiar with... that's hard as hell.

All these established brands coming in are helping make the market larger, which I think will disproportionally help Tesla. Nothing even proposed right now matches the current value per dollar you get from Tesla's lineup without factoring in additional federal rebates. Once those are equalized, Tesla will have a big advantage in the market.

Poledancer has no premium clout. It's really just a Volvo. And like all Volvos, it's not all that.

No one

The Chinese have tried - and so far failed to move Volvo up to Premium status. However - their prices are simply not justifiable based on their real level of a second tier. Even Federal rebates which Tesla is losing - will not help Volvo

Well I don't know about Polestar. I don't know as a brand if it will really make a dent. I think it should just be an electric Volvo serviced at Volvo dealers. I think it is diluted marketing on Volvo's part. as for looking over the shoulder-In theory Tesla should be but other than Porsche with the Taycan there is nothing yet that challenges Tesla as a whole just yet. In a years time we should be able to see who is challenging Tesla. Perhaps it might just be Ford with the Mustang Mach One. Mustang devotees of course are crying foul. However Ford is saying that the first years run is sold out. So either new buyers to the fold or cutting into Tesla 3 and Tesla Y sales. Time will tell.
