GM Believes Three Cylinder SUV Is In Your Future - Care To Share Your Thoughts On That?
Always on the hunt for better fuel economy, General Motors is reviving the three-cylinder engine for future models in North America. It's the first time GM has offered a three-pot stateside in nearly two decades.

A pair of new engines will surface in the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer and next-gen 2020 Buick Encore GX, displacing 1.2 liters and 1.3 liters. They are based on similar versions revealed abroad, although power ratings for U.S.-bound engines aren’t available just yet. Given their relatively modest subcompact applications, don't expect them to suck you into the seat.

As long as the GM geniuses don't decide to install a 3 cylinder engine in the C8 Corvette.

lol. that's what i immediately thought - GM is using big motorcycle engines now, huh?!

that multi-corporate partnership should've included Harley-Davidson & BMW - their big bikes are great!

We must remember that while the emissions and mileage regulations are temporarily being reduced in the usa, that is not the case in Europe and may not be the case in a number of states that use California enhanced emission standards. While some manufacturers will use the new US guidelines - most are likely to do so based on Volume of sales - and since the European requirements meet the US ones (THey are actually stricter in Europe) - why spend extra money to pollute more.

THere is NO DOUBT that in the future the emissions regulation will get stronger again - since even Europe's next set are already known - and Manufacturers will have to meet them - so the use of more small engines and hybrids will be the result. Noting that the world does not have the generation capacity to go to EVs in a giant way - maybe no more than 10% for at least 10 years - ICE cars will still be predominant long after I am gone.

This is simply GM giving pathetic value... I predict few 3's will be ordered and most buyers will (heres the kicker) PAY MORE for the other engines... GM is so pathetic... I'll never buy anything from these cheap Ba$%Q4rds...

You'd be wildly WRONG if the Escape is any indication. People are not opting for the 4 cylinder Ecoboost. They are liking the 3 cylinder.

Toyota has proved smaller is not the way to more efficient.
