Steep discounts make the cars sell. Selling cars, backing them out...it's one of their tactics.

Even with the strong November sales result, Audi is still down 1.1% YTD. This shows how much ground the brand has lost to BMW and Mercedes-Benz in 2019. Since Audi has a smaller sales figure than both BMW and Mercedes-Benz, it takes fewer sales for Audi to show a larger percentage increase than BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Instead of increasing sales at a faster pace than its rivals, Audi hasn't even kept up but rather seen its sales decline YTD.
Audi's exterior styling has gotten old and there is very little change from one generation to the next. Audi has paid a heavy price for its exterior design stagnation.

Audi would probably make more money in the US if it just sold SUV's.
The Q5 and Q7 SUV's make up 46% of Audi's sales.
The A4, A5, and A6 somewhat perform - but I suspect any sales performance of those models is because they are the "Service Loaner" cars of choice when people get their Q5 or Q7 serviced.
All the other Audi's sold are a complete waste of effort on the part of Audi.
Audi does not seem to be a healthy brand. Thoughts?

Audi is in some pretty deep caca.
They lack any strategic vision for product or styling. Right now they are aping Lexus with ugly cow-catcher faces. A3/4/6/7/8 is just too much sedan coverage. Sell the A4 at the A3 price and kill the A3. Kill the A6/7/8 and replace it with the 4 door Etron at the A6 price (even if they lose money) to buy market share in the EV wars.
The Q3 needs to be larger but price maintained or lowered. The Q5 could benefit from some size for the price. The Q7 needs to be more upright. The Q8 was a dumb move.

Every car brand would make more money now if they only sold SUV's; MB & BMW are in the same boat; cars are just not selling anywhere close to what they used to. I'm sure it's a cycle like everything in life. As for lacking any strategic vision, have you looked at their global sales and profitability beyond the US market? Audi is in excellent financial shape. They had a 10 year run in the US with incredible growth that had to come to an end. Certainly the emissions scandal didn't help. With more RS models and a wave of new electric vehicles coming to our shores, their future is extremely bright. As far as discounts go - every brand does it even MB & BMW - both have larger rebates currently than Audi. All three brands fight it out in a very competitive market and all do fine. Audi has the parent company VW with huge pockets and capital at their disposal that both MB & BMW lack. While none of the brands are in any trouble, long-term I'd be more comfortable from a financial perspective wit Audi than the other two.

Unfortunately, Audi has morphed into a fancy Subaru.

A that would be would be a brilliant repositioning of this brand that is so rapidly losing its identity. Price them like Subarus. #WIN
