Is The Mach E Going To Be A Success Simply Because It Is Half The Price Of A Tesla?

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is coming, you know that, as is an electric F-150, and of course the Bronco, but this blog is really about those first two cars, since they are more game-changing, at least for Ford. For those of us on the outside this merely constitutes trying.

I don’t mean to be snide. Electric cars are the future, but if there is no market for them, or if there is only a small market for them, you can’t expect big automakers to care much about them, even if our planet is dying and all that. But the funny thing is that there is a big market for electric cars that people want—and it sure sounds like the Mustang Mach-E is an electric car that people want.

No, it's going to be a success because it will be twice as good at half the price.

Who write this??...The Mach E is not half the price of the Model 3/Y that it competes with.

It will be the same price or more expensive if you remove all incentives. The Mach E competes with the Model Y (which will be available earlier too).

The drug addled author [sic] of this piece says the Mach-E is half the price of the Model X and then two paragraphs later says it will compete against the Model Y. These Elon fantasizes will twist anything.
The Mach-E is a better car, by a better company, that is far better looking and Ford will actually make a profit.

It will be a success because there are a zillion Ford dealers where you can get service at, unlike Tesla, which is having problems even supplying parts for its cars. Go read the Tesla Forums and see all the folks complaining about how poor Tesla service is (if they can get in for service).

Why would dealerships actively try to sell this over a car that actually needs service? I think dealerships might try to steer customers to ICE cars, we'll see.

It will be a success because it is better looking, engineered by a company that knows how to engineer vehicles, prototyped by a company that knows the prototype phase is essential, better quality, and sold and serviced in easily accessible dealers.

I think it will be highly successful on it's own. As more people move to EVs this will provide another option and it is likely that both Tesla and Ford's Mach E will do well.

EVs also need service. They break just like ICE cars. Except in Tesla's case, owners are stranded because they can't get in for service nor can they get parts without a long multi-month wait.

I've used service many times, it's really not that bad. It was amazing with just the Model S and has suffered a bit when the Model 3 came out. Wait times are 1-2 weeks and the Model 3 only needs service EVERY 4 YEARS unlike the S/X (annually). Somethings they can do at your house or work parking lot with Mobile service (super awesome).
