The Era Of The Taycan Has Begun And The Model S May Be The First Victim
Porsche was adamant it did not view the Tesla Model S as a real competitor during the development of its first electric car. Nobody believed them. Like the Model S, the Porsche Taycan is a sleek four-door sedan with coupe-like styling with powerful batteries and electric motors and plenty of range. Both are high-tech wonders, but the Taycan is brand spanking new, making the Model S feel old by comparison. Which is perhaps why the Taycan is luring Tesla owners to Porsche showrooms.

LMAO “the Taycan is brand spanking new, making the Model S feel old by comparison”

Ummmm....The Model S is old, it’s been out since 2011...

Congrats to Porsche and congrats to Tesla for holding the market down for nearly a decade convincing heritage manufacturers like Porsche that a market is there and they should give it a strong effort and not half ass it like manufacturers have been doing for years

FAQmd- a lot of BS not worth repeating

LMAO according to this genius who says and I quote “The only reason other manufactures are jumping on the EV bandwagon is because gov's around the world know that it is easier to control the masses using EV technology...”

Crack is wack ppl...

Tesla didn’t invent EV’s or create incentives...they simply got the masses excited about EVs again and demonstrated to luxury manufacturers there are clients willing to pay 6 figure price tags for the technology

Period

If you put as much effort into research as you do typing BS, you’d never type the above.

Taycan is nice, but price is a lot higher than Model S. The real competition will come with the Audi Etron GT.

What’s even more funny is people are willing to pay luxury prices for a supposed “non luxury” car...LOL sucks for the luxury maker that lost that luxury price paying client

At this point, we might start seeing Model S in the Hertz/National/Budget rental car fleets.

The Model S has become the 'Chevy Malibu' of EV's. When is Tesla stopping production of the Model X? Perhaps when the Y comes out? I assume the X will just quietly go away.

Lol in the US, the model S outsold the S Class, 7series, A8, and LS for third quarter just based on similar price points. If you go down to the CLS, A7, 6 that gap gets even wider for the Model S lead despite selling for an average price of around $103,000.

Looks like people are still willing to pay luxury prices for a “non luxury” car

Car4life - WHY did you not mention that the Model S outsold every Mini being offered as well. After all - if you are going to compare apples with oranges - the mini is certainly that.

THe problem is - the Tesla Model S is not in the same class as the Mercedes S class - etc - and NEVER was. Yes - the Toyota Corolla outsells the Rolls Phantom as well.

Tesla came to market and automatically decided to claim a position in the top tier of luxury cars - it doesn't work that way. THat position has to be earned over time - and Tesla has NOT earned it - because it is NOT a true high class luxury car -maybe second tier - and overpriced for that.

TomM care to mention the Mini’s price tag?.... Ok good boy, when Mini can fetch north of $80,000 like a model S, get back to me until then continue enjoy watching mini dealerships close and it be a pain in the pocket.

Again for the people who are still hooked on phonics, BASED ON PRICEPOINT NOT CLASS, The Model S outsold it’s nearest competitors in that PRICEPOINT

A great chart to see where ALL the BEV and PHEV stand. A sale is a sale and Tesla rules these charts.

Taycan styling is way watered down from the concept. Go back to the drawing board. I am no Tesla fan, but give me the "S" for this matchup

Hey fanboys, stop staring at your Elon poster for a second. Tesla revenue, GP, operating, etc all dropped in the 3rd quarter vs year ago. Bad indicators for a "growth" company. Model S and X sales also dropping.
You mentioned Norway, Tesla sales fell off a cliff there after incentives ended.

lol if a car that’s been out since 2011 sales didn’t drop I’d honestly be concerned about the market hahaha good one

It is the size of the drop that matters, and S and X sales have dropped dramatically and Elon has stated they are not revising either, likely they lack the capital to do so.
Also, all the luxury cars you mention make a lot of profit for their makers. Seems they have a better plan.

As they should, they’ve been in business for over 80 years so I hope they’ve mastered maximizing profit from their products by now

No ones denying a drop but let’s not act like sedans in general haven’t been dropping in market share, some being discontinued altogether

And when your only SUV that’s shaped like a Pontiac Aztec, cost more than the Escalade, GLS, and X7, you will eventually see a drop

When the Model Y is introduced which is Tesla’s first stab at the hottest category right now compact SUVs, I’m sure you will see a huge spike in sales just as every manufacturer entering that arena has seen

Common Sense

Except the excellent Mustang-MachE will beat them to market with a better vehicle with a better infrastructure behind.
As the model why is essentially a raised model 3, the significant spike you suggest will come largely from model 3 sales. AND it still will not be profitable.
If tesla priced their cars to make a profit their sales would drop to dozens.

Both cars are a pin prick in a market of 17M vehicles sold each year in the USA. Porsche may make 20,000 or 30,000 cars? For the world? BMW sells 1M or more 3-Series cars. Audi likely does a lot of A4's too. This car won't move the needle for Porsche, but a BEV Cayenne or Macan would.

You can keep the Taycan and Model S. I'd rather have an AMG Benz, Alpina BMW, or Audi RS any day of the week. While you wait in line to get to a charging station, and then wait again to actually charge up, I'll be out on the road driving right by you having fun.

I mean, what I said is true, watch the video. There are lots of good things about the Taycan as well. The cons are UI, price, and range. Looks and fit and finish are excellent, performance seems excellent... they did a great job.

The interior UI/UX design of the Taycan is extremely convoluted and does not seem very well thought through. A screen to control a screen? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vq6KEOIiMg

Tesla is still far ahead here with even the Model 3.
