SPIED: The All-new MK8 Volkswagen Golf GTI Is Caught Doing Winter Testing — See It Here FIRST!
If you're seeking a starter performance vehicle, there's a good chance you'll check out a Volkswagen Golf GTI. There's several reasons for this: Primarily, they're affordable. Secondarily, they do provide a nice amount of oomph and sophistication relative to its peers.

But, there's just one thing: The competition has stepped up its game considerably.

Knowing this, it appears that VW has upped the MK8 Golf's ante. This is why we love competition!

While the first reviews of the standard MK8 Golf have been rolling out over the past week, we're now seeing all-new spy shots of the next-gen Golf GTI. Spotted undergoing winter testing, these latest shots show a virtually uncamouflaged GTI.

I don't suspect the front clip or grille are GTI-specific in this R&D vehicle. Other spy shots have indicated a more aggressive "face," than what we're seeing here.

This is just a test mule calm down haters. The GTI has and will always be the benchmark for compact inexpensive performance. There is not another car on the market that provides the level of performance, comfort, and fun like the GTI for around $30k.

The Honda Civic Type R comes to mind.

@trboaccord. Don't be a moron. The GTI has ALWAYS looked like what it is: a dowdy Golf with blingy wheels.

The Mustang Ecoboost will obliterate a GTI on every performance, comfort, and fun parameter for LESS than $30K.

Well, the Veloster N is a helluva drive.

Probably the best FWD performance vehicle I've ever driven. I know, that sounds like an oxymoron...

The Veloster is a big problem for VW. The Hyundai is much more reliable. People who bitch about how FWD doesn't handle it's because they don't know how to hustle FWD. They are a bit counterintuitive but it you know how the manage weight transfer with throttle and brake, you can go really fast in FWD.
