President Trump Plans To ROLL BACK Emissions Standards In 2020, Expects Challenges
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that his administration will finalize its rollback of Obama-era vehicle emissions standards next year and expected it would provoke a new legal challenge by California.

The administration had signaled in recent months it could finalize its proposed revisions to the requirements before the end of 2019. The administration has argued that the rollbacks are necessary for economic and safety reasons but California and environmentalists reject that analysis, saying consumers would spend hundreds of billions more in fuel costs.

In August 2018, the administration proposed freezing vehicle efficiency requirements at 2020 levels through 2026, which would result in average fuel efficiency of 37 miles per gallon (mpg) by 2026, compared with 46.7 mpg under rules adopted in 2012. The Trump administration’s “preferred option” would hike U.S. oil consumption by about 500,000 barrels per day by the 2030s but reduce automakers regulatory costs by more than $300 billion...

@Truthy - keep buying the spin of the mainstream left media. President Obama is the one who bent over to Putin. President Trump has done much more to place sanctions on Russia, and funded weapons for Ukraine to protect itself from Russia, something Obama did not do.

You need to quit listening to the White House official news at FUX. Obama was the one who initially placed sanctions on Rusia, in alignment with our allies also kicked them out of the G8 and closed Russian offices.
tRump has reopened those offices, has pushed for Russia to be readmitted to the G8 and to remove sanctions, in essence give them a pass on annexing Crimea.
tRump only agreed to sell weapons to Ukraine after he heard about the whistleblower and congress was forcing his hand.
Everything tRump has done in foreign affairs has benefitted Russia.
The Brookings institute is a far right think tank, so not a good resource.
You fascists who support tRump cannot stand any negative comment about Herr tRump. This is exactly what fascists dictators have done in the past, constantly discredit the press.
It is not far left, you just don't like the news.

If a person wants to buy a vehicle that gets 12 mpg that should be their choice, same as it should be if they choose to purchase an EV. if it’s about emissions, then list the yearly emissions level to the window sticker along with mileage, parts content etc.

consumers should be able to decide what they want to purchase, unelected Social Engineering Bureaucrats should not be deciding what they are allowed to purchase.

Yea, the government should not enact legislation or govern. Everybody for themselves.
You are wrong. But, it should be consumer driven and not manufacturer driven. Have an emissions tax or fuel tax and let the consumer decide. The problem with CAFE standards is that manufacturers to make cars that don't sell and profits disappear.

It is really about emissions not MPG, so make it emissions based. If you want a 12MPG car fine, however the emissions that come out the tail pipe must meet X standard to continue to reduce pollution and CO2 levels.

If the President wins the next election it will be a statistical feat never seen before in US politics. No sitting president has won with approval ratings as low as his (low 40's 40-42). Every President with numbers even approaching that (48%) have lost and did not get a 2nd term.

You can get elected as a disruptor with no record, the first time. The 2nd time you running on your approval rating. Job numbers and stock index values matter very little to voters it would seem. He should be at 70-80%. Now being dragged through an impeachment vote and subsequent trial will not do him any favours, and approval ratings could drop into the 30's.

At that point a bar of soap could beat him. He would need to pass a balanced budget, an infrastructure bill and Universal Health Care to have a hope of re-election in 2020. I just don't see any of that happening.

@oxavier - Trudeau got re-elected when he really should not have. The right couldn't catch the ball when it hit them in the numbers. Will Trump be so lucky with approvals in the ditch? I think not. Something needs to change or he will be out.

@MD- Trump is floating about 90% approval with Republicans that get polled. About 41% with regular folks who get polled. That divide spells trouble even if we agree that polls are not always all that accurate.

So much alternate universe world here where Putin was helping Hillary... wow, must get me a tin foil hat so I can get that channel, reception is not too good in the real world. The massive increase in the deficit is real, even President Trumps own website clearly show it. When we do have a downturn, which we will, the government will have few tools to fight it as deficit spending is one of those tools to help get people back to work. Normally any reasoned leader would be working to lower the deficit and even paying down the deficit during good economic time, instead we have sent it through the roof over the last 2 years.

In the end - all the political diatribes above are meaningless

California will succeed in getting the changes held as they fight them in the Federal Court System

And since the Conservatives rule the SCOTUS, and THEY are anti Federalism and in favor of state rights - will rule that a state CAN put into place emission regulation SUPERIOR to that of the Federal Government as long as the Minimum Federal standards are met. THat may take two years or more - it make little difference who wins the next election - we do not even know who is actually going to be on the Ballots. And with a record number of contenders over 70 and approaching eighty - it may be death that decides that one.

Wrong. The interstate commerce clause will be the determining point. Equal rules so trade flow freely from state to state. Also if one President can “grant a waiver” another can remove it. California liberals will continue to waste taxpayers money on lawsuits though, AND try to dictate what vehicles can be sold in the state AND discriminate against anyone who doesn’t do as they dictate. Fascists!
