3 Weeks After Mustang Mach-E Breaks Cover Only 1 In 15 Dealerships Know What It Is

While Ford's upcoming all-electric Mustang Mach-E is slated to be the first true Tesla competitor in terms of range and performance, it seems the legacy OEM needs to do its homework and educate dealerships.

In an interesting share, EV Bite reached out to some 15 Ford dealerships within a 200-mile radius, only to get either no valuable information or details that were seemingly completely wrong. We can only hope that you'll find the video above, which is essentially a recording of such calls, extremely humorous. To say that we laughed very hard here is an understatement!

We pedal products, but don't know what they really are...

Vast majority of new car salesman might as well be selling widgets. Take the order, move the metal, collect the commission. When they don't care to know about the products they are selling do you think they care about you as a customer?

Going to go to the dealership and ask what grade of gas these take and see how many salesman's fail the test.

Most car salesman don't care about what they are doing...they are selling cars today and they may be selling mattresses tomorrow and something else the next day. Moreover most of these salespeople are not the brightest bunch so the management feeds them the most pertinent info to drive sales today and not much else.

The receptionist at most car dealers are hired for visual appeal, not brains so they are usually there to look good and sound friendly on the phone and not much else. Similarly, most of these people are mentally maxed out with answering and routing calls.

I think you're being too harsh on the receptionists. Remember, it isn't their job to know the inventory and equipment available on each model.

Personally I have not dealt with a car salesperson who doesn't know their products inside and out. Judging from @MD's posts I presume he runs a pretty tight ship out there in California and his crew know their products too, including the upcoming Mustang-E.

I expect sales people to be fully up to speed on what's happening and what's coming. One of the sales people corrected me and said that the base Escape did not have a 3 cylinder engine. Let's just say he had a learning moment that he won't soon forget. Someone other than the sales person follows up with every contact made on the lot and we ask how people were treated. A tight ship is a ship that makes money.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E Is an SUV Short on Utility
Ground clearance and towing capacity are severely lacking.
Comparing cargo capacity, the Mach-E is once again much closer to Ford's station wagon than to its similarly sized SUV.

For the vast majority of crossover SUV drivers who don't tow or go off road it is the perfect size for daily use such as commuting to work or taking the kids to school.

(1) There simply is NOT a lot of information--aside from what the public knows--about the Mach E that dealerships have received.

(2) Dealerships can be myopic i.e. staff only knows what's on the lot.

I agree with your comment. Back in the 1980's, everyone was buying mini vans because their neighbor did. Now it's on to SUV's. People don't know specs. They know what's trendy, whether they need it or not.... Did I hear someone say pick up truck?
