Audi Places Dash Buttons On Endangered Species List

Hard buttons that are easy to operate by touch and feel might as well be put on the endangered species list at Audi.

The German automaker's latest MMI Touch Response infotainment system consists of a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 10.3-inch touchscreen for infotainment, and an 8.6-inch touchscreen for climate controls. Few buttons exist inside the current A8, A7, A6, Q8, and upcoming 2020 Q7, though there is a volume knob for the radio.

This is just the beginning.

Yes Tesla an innovator, oh wait Lexus was using a touch screen a decade before the S existed.

All manufacturers will go this route, it's really not a big deal. What I wish is they would think about UI/UX and consolidate the screens instead of creating multiple interfaces and screens. You can do a lot more with one giant screen versus 3 small ones.

It's the first company to put large touchscreens on cars, they started the trend.

@MD- I know that. You know that. The car companies know that. People need to clue in. None of this is good.

Lower cost for manufacturers...less safe for drivers.

Ask Honda how they learned a painful lesson when they eliminated knobs on their dash and info devices.
The public rebelled and HATED the lack of physical knobs!

I'm doing my best to avoid buying a vehicle with all touch screens. If Audi and Porsche go that way, then I won't be buying any of their new products.

I don't like it either, but it's very obvious this is the future and ALL manufacturers will adopt it.
