THIS Is Why Porsche Blew The Taycan EPA Mileage Numbers So Badly
This week, we learned the EPA rated the new 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo’s range at just 201 miles on a charge. That’s worse than almost every other electric car on sale today, and far worse than the 300 miles Porsche teased a couple of years ago, so what made the EPA figure so low?

There are two very clear factors that resulted in the Porsche Taycan Turbo coming in with less range than the Nissan Leaf, Chevy Bolt Jaguar I-Pace, Audi E-Tron, Mercedes-Benz EQC, and every Tesla on sale today.

This says it all and I agree with Jalopnick…

“Essentially, traditional manufacturers have customers that are less likely to accept drive unit failures, battery replacements and quality concerns that Tesla early adopters often write off as a small price to pay for a car from the future. And, without the sort of growth-is-everything valuation of a Silicon Valley tech firm, Volkswagen’s shareholders are less likely to tolerate stratospheric warranty costs.

Plus, at 370 miles, we’re definitely reaching a point where overall range becomes significantly less important than charging times and charging infrastructure. In America, we’re still waiting for a reliable and expansive fast-charging network to really take on Tesla’s Superchargers. The Volkswagen Group is getting one built out, but it’ll take some time.

In the meantime, don’t expect anyone to best Tesla’s range. Audi, Porsche and Mercedes are all being cautious with their EV tech. By sacrificing some miles of range to keep the motors and battery pack cool and healthy, the goal is to provide EV levels of emissions reduction without sacrificing the quality or durability of an internal combustion car.”

Conclusion..
Tesla’s are generally under-engineered (fires anyone?) and of a lesser quality than traditional manufacturers.

Traditional manufacturers cannot get away with the corner-cutting that Tesla enjoys because, unlike Tesla, they have their decades-old stellar reputations to consider.

LMAO DECADES OLD STELLAR REPUTATIONS????

Let’s just take Audi the company that just a few decades ago severely damaged its reputation/image for unintended acceleration that crippled North American sales of the brand for nearly a decade

They are the same company that has active recalls out now on their SUVs for wheel arch covers that can detach and hit other vehicles....

Porsche has had its fair share of “widow maker” vehicles and as much as I love Benz, they had their share of electronic/quality control gremlins in the early 00’s

So let’s be a realistic, EVERY DOG has had its day for better or worst...

Tesla is ahead and they too have had their issues but are reaping the benefits of being
1st and miles ahead of the competition...literally in this case

The Audi unintended acceleration was in the 1980s and was proven to be false. Not a good example.
The other issues are old or minor, so your attempt at false equivilancy falls short.
Tesla's are under engineered to get a bragging right on range at the expense of fire and other failures. European makes are taking great pains to keep their batteries and motors cool. This why a Porsche can make around the 'Ring and a Tesla needs to be towed. Charging times are more important.

Unintended acceleration is a minor issue?!?! Bits of your car flying off hitting other cars in traffic is a minor issue?!?! Say that to the Audi owners that put their life and others life at risk in these cases LMAO

Try telling Audi execs who lost hundreds of millions in revenue those issues “weren’t a big deal” genius

Elon Musk probably got reject for employment because he was to reckless as an engineer to pass through the 4-6 interviews need to get hired. He had to do the only thing available, he started his own companies! Just like Thomas Edison did 100+ years ago!

So far there have been two fires for Model 3s and they were because of serious accidents. I bet it won't take long for the Taycan to surpass that, it's not proven yet to be any safer or more reliable than an S or 3.

The Germans are having range problems (as is Ford - which they overcame with a huge battery) because they are 2 generations behind Tesla in the battery and motor tech. The entire premise of the artcicle is BS, because these German cars are not known for stellar reliability. Teslas are largely reliable besides some of the early Model S vehicles which have had the drive unit failures.

Quit smoking dope with Elon. Teslas are far from reliable. And problems with the sound system are a lot less severe than your car catching on fire in the garage.

LMAO jazzyDelusionalJazz I don’t think anyone stated Tesla is reliable but reading isn’t for everyone.

What we aren’t going to do is act like Tesla is the only one that’s had reliability/quality issues though. That’s just ignorant LMAO

So the Audi acceleration debacle was a rigged test on the investigation report which was falsified and NHSTA ruled that there was no fault on Audi as the brake pedal was slightly closer to acceleration pedal than American cars.

Cars4life, you need to chill and research stats and read. There has been 6 deaths with the Audi debacle but higher number of deaths with Tesla autopilot.

Thanks for your time and commitment to my post, your efforts are appreciated, however if you scroll up the convo was about reputation, no one argued Tesla’s was flawless sooooo your research was a waste of time...regardless of what you want to say about the Audi case, it happened and tarnished their reputation and they handled it ridiculously.

Since you are on safety though, u never addressed Audi wheel flares flying off their SUV or the A4’s door swinging open during small overlap crash testing but I digress
