Telsa Offers $2,000 Acceleration Boost Option For Model 3 Dual Motor

Tesla has officially launched “Acceleration Boost,” a $2,000 over-the-air software upgrade that makes the 0 to 60 mph acceleration of the Model 3 Dual Motor Long Range go down to 3.9 seconds.

As we reported yesterday, the news leaked on the fine print of Tesla’s website in the upgrade section of the Tesla account of some owners.

Great so you can accelerate even faster into the rear of that parked fire truck should you be unfortunate enough to use the AutoCrash feature...

OTA updates is yet another leading feature from Tesla, I'm telling you they really have done a very thorough re-thinking of the automobile. As for those crashes, the driver is still supposed to pay attention. If the lane keeping feature of your mere or BMW or Cadillac doesn't keep you in the lane and drifts into something it is your fault, similarly with Tesla's driving features.

Um, yeah. So far they have been the only company to do OTA updates and they started doing them in 2012... 7 years ago. Only now have a few models trickled out that will support OTA in 2020.

Um, yeah that's exactly what I'm saying because no car has been doing OTA updates yet except for Tesla and most new cars today aren't even capable of OTA updates.

Which other car maker does OTA updates? Name one other than Tesla! You can't because there isn't one. LOL back at you!

They'd be better off offering the option of an automated onboard fire suppression system.

I'm debated whether to do it or not. Is $2k worth a 0.5 second upgrade to 0-60? How do I even justify that? If I did 2,000 launches, I would be paying $1 a launch for the performance boost. Leaning towards not doing the upgrade, 4.4s is already pretty damn fast.

Not worth it if you keep the car short-term.
Not worth it if you keep the car long-term as the extra power if used will affect longevity.

Yeah, I'll hold off for now. There is a chance it will be cheaper in the future. If it was $500 I would do it right away without hesitation. There is always a chance they will give it away for free at somepoint.

It used to cost $12k to upgrade a Model S 40 to a 60, and at this point I think I might have gotten a free upgrade 6 years later. They unlocked the car during the CA fires and have yet to revert it back to a 40. There are so few 40s left it might not be worth the effort (hopefully).
